He Has You

Amongst the ranks of Christian soldiers, there stands a unique group of warriors who are called the intercessors. An intercessor is someone who devotes their prayer life to praying for the needs of others. An intercessor stands in the gap between God and His children.

It is the intercessor that can plead with God to change the course of history. God said, “So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one” (Ezekiel 22:30).

Pray like it matters that you pray. Moses, wanting to save his nation, “…went back to Yahweh and said, ‘These people have committed such a serious sin! They made gods out of gold for themselves. But will you forgive their sin? If not, please wipe me out of the book you have written.’” (Exodus 32:31-32 NOG).

Moses was willing to sacrifice everything for those he was praying for. But God was reserving that sacrifice for the only perfect lamb found in His Son, Jesus Christ.

Intercessory prayer can be a specific need for your family, your friends or your church. Intercessors have a deep compassion to pray for their community and their nation. It does not matter how much things are falling apart around you, only that you pray to the Lord who is above you.

The proof of your faith is found in the confidence of your prayers. “Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us” (1 John 5:14).

Secret prayers impress God more because they are not trying to impress man. “But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly” (Matthew 6:6).

Every national problem is a heart problem in the individuals that live there. If you want to change a nation, start by praying for someone who lives there. You can’t pray for everyone by name, but you can pray for every name that is already known to God. We may not be able to change someone’s heart, but we can pray to our God who can.

If you want to change a nation, pray for the hearts of the men and women who live there. “if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14).

It’s not your strength to stand but your willingness to kneel that God is looking for. “The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.” (James 5:16 NLT).

When a nation strays too far from God, it is there that God must deal with them. God will deal with a person on an individual sin, but with a nation on the collective sin. When a nation is falling apart, it is there that God is looking for even one person who would turn to Him. An intercessor does not need a special strength, but a believing heart in all that God can do.

If you won’t pray for your nation, who will? “Here are my directions: Pray much for others; plead for God’s mercy upon them; give thanks for all he is going to do for them. Pray in this way for kings and all others who are in authority over us, or are in places of high responsibility, so that we can live in peace and quietness, spending our time in godly living and thinking much about the Lord.” (1 Timothy 2:1-2 TLB).

If you only pray for yourself, then that says much about you. Moses prayed for the nation of Israel, “’Pardon the iniquity of this people, I pray, according to the greatness of Your mercy…’ Then the Lord said: ‘I have pardoned, according to your word’” (Numbers 14:19-20). 

If you want to help your nation, then be that one who stands in the gap between God and the people of your nation. God can change a nation, but will there be someone who prays for that? God can bring revival, but is there someone who will be willing to fervently pray for that? Don’t be disheartened when things get bad, but simply pray to our Father for things to get better.

You will not be shaken by all going on around you when you focus on the Lord who is inside you. “…He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” (1 John 4:4).

The level of our faith is revealed in the confidence we have as we pray for things. Jesus taught, “Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them” (Mark 11:24).

Let it be you that is the one that God finds standing in the gap for your family, for your friends, for your church, for your city, for your nation. If ever God is looking for someone to stand in the gap, surely it is right now. “So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one” (Ezekiel 22:30).
