The Seer

A seer is a prophet and can see things revealed by God. The Lord may reveal to the seer a prophetic vision of the future or a current revelatory truth. The seer may receive a word or a vision. It is the Lord who decides how to deliver the message to the seer, and the seer must only receive it.

You must be close to God to hear God because He speaks with a whisper. “(In those days if people wanted a message from God, they would say, ‘Let’s go and ask the seer,’ for prophets used to be called seers.)” (1 Samuel 9:9 NLT).

There are many who may want to be a seer, but there are few of whom the Lord will choose to be one. It is not something that we can attain by education or through some program. Though some may try to peddle the seer role as a trinket, it is only the Lord qualified to make you one.

The day that your ministry becomes a business, it is no longer a ministry. “For unlike so many, we are not peddlers of God’s Word who water down the message. We are those sent from God with pure motives, who speak in the sight of God from our union with Christ” (2 Corinthians 2:17 TPT).

There is a belief from some that to be a seer is a position to be desired. But when God calls someone to be a seer, it will be anything but easy for them once they become one. The Lord demands the most and is the hardest on those He calls to such a position as a seer.

The Lord is hardest on two groups of people: those furthest from Him and those closest to Him. “For whom the Lord loves He chastens, and scourges every son whom He receives” (Hebrews 12:6 NKJV).

To be a seer means that you will likely see many things that you do not want to. The Lord will show you the hearts of men and women around you, and you will see what they really think about you. As you see the truth inside them, you must at the same time act as if you know nothing.

Sometimes you know you’ve preached a good word by how few like it.They tell the seers, ‘Stop seeing visions!’ They tell the prophets, ‘Don’t tell us what is right. Tell us nice things. Tell us lies’” (Isaiah 30:10 NLT).

A seer is not only to see what is in the future but to reveal what is taking place around them right now. The seer can discern the times and discern the moves of God that are happening. The seer will never worry about what man is doing because they will see what their God is already up to.

A prophetic word is light into a darkened world. “At that time Hanani the seer came to King Asa and told him, ‘Because you have put your trust in the king of Aram instead of in the Lord your God, you missed your chance to destroy the army of the king of Aram’” (2 Chronicles 16:7 NLT).

The seer does not judge what they see but only sees what the Lord will show them. They know their own faults more than the faults of others. They see their own frailty and weakness because they see the strength of the Lord who is with them. Nobody can be a successful seer looking down on others.

The higher faith is not appearing to look godly before man but simply kneeling down before a mighty God. Anyone can be near to God, but only a few will. “…But on this one will I look: on him who is poor and of a contrite spirit, and who trembles at My word” (Isaiah 66:2 NKJV).

A seer can reveal to you things they have seen. But often, what the seer can see is not what the person would want to receive. Just because the Lord reveals a thing to a seer does not mean the seer is to reveal that thing to a person. Some revelations about others are just for you to know.

Darkness conceals, but light reveals. “Then Saul drew near to Samuel in the gate, and said, ‘Please tell me, where is the seer’s house?’ Samuel answered Saul and said, ‘I am the seer. Go up before me to the high place, for you shall eat with me today; and tomorrow I will let you go and will tell you all that is in your heart’” (1 Samuel 9:18-19 NKJV).

The seer is a servant and must only serve as they are led to by the Lord. Just as soon as they are a seer for their own gain of money or position, they will be as far from God as they used to be as close to Him. A false seer is worse than a true sinner and will be judged most harshly by the Lord.

A false prophet will tickle people’s ears, but a real prophet will box them. The Lord said, “I have not sent these [false] prophets… I have not spoken to them, yet they prophesied. But if they had stood in My counsel, and had caused My people to hear My words, then they would have turned them from their evil way…” (Jeremiah 23:21-22 NKJV).

If you want to be a seer, then you probably don’t know what a seer must go through. A seer is often an outcast and a weird one, never fitting in with the likes of most men. A seer often suffers and is rarely comfortable in the calling that is before them. Be what God calls you to be and nothing more.

Learn to let suffering complete its work in you before God might remove it. “After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace [who imparts His blessing and favor], who called you to His own eternal glory in Christ, will Himself complete, confirm, strengthen, and establish you [making you what you ought to be]” (1 Peter 5:10 AMP).

Blessings to you,

Paul Balius
