Making Jesus Famous

Whether it be our church or our personal calling, the point of it is to make Jesus famous. We can’t save a single soul, but we can most certainly point people to the One who can. You may not reach very many souls, but make sure that the ones you do reach know about Jesus.

The most powerful message you can preach is your testimony. After Jesus delivered a man from demons, He told him, “Go home to your friends, and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He has had compassion on you” (Mark 5:19 NKJV).

Making Jesus famous is more important than trying to be famous yourself. Too many churches and too many people promote themselves far more than they lift up the name of Jesus. They will get their reward on earth but be paupers when they miss out on the rewards in heaven.

It’s more important to be righteous than to be popular. “Does this sound as if I am trying to win human approval? No indeed! What I want is God’s approval! Am I trying to be popular with people? If I were still trying to do so, I would not be a servant of Christ” (Galatians 1:10 GNT).

Making Jesus famous is making people aware of the hope that they so desperately need. Your value to the kingdom of God is in how much you are reflecting Jesus Christ in your life. When people see Jesus reigning in you, then you are being His witness to a dark and dying world.

The peace of Christ in you is the message of hope through you. Jesus taught, “I have told you all this so that you will have peace of heart and mind. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows; but cheer up, for I have overcome the world” (John 16:33 TLB).

If you are a Christian, then you are supposed to be a witness to the wonderful truth of salvation through Christ alone. You don’t have to be a great preacher to give a great message, but only a soul saved by Jesus can tell the story of how it happened.

I used to worry that people would find out about my past and that it would ruin my testimony. But the opposite is true. The Lord Jesus is glorified by all He has done for you and me. The worse our before, the greater His happily ever after. The Lord Jesus said, “Therefore I say to you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much. But to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little” (Luke 7:47 NKJV).

Making Jesus famous is more important than being able to argue a thousand doctrines. Anybody can study and get smarter, but it takes a life changed by the Holy Spirit to focus on reaching others so that they, too, might be changed by Jesus Christ.

God is more interested that you live a doctrine than you are able to argue it. “Stay away from foolish and stupid arguments. You know that these arguments grow into bigger arguments. As a servant of the Lord, you must not argue. You must be kind to everyone. You must be a good teacher, and you must be patient.” (2 Timothy 2:23-24 ERV).

Making Jesus famous is more important than walking in a multitude of spiritual gifts. The problem is when the gifts puff up your pride and point people to look at you. So long as you are not pointing people to Jesus, you’re a hindrance to what God wants to do through you.

Jesus never said you would discern others by their gifts but by their fruits. Jesus taught,“A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Therefore by their fruits you will know them” (Matthew 7:18,20 NKJV).

It takes a surrendered life to have a devoted life to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. When Jesus reigns high in the life of a believer, it is easy for them to lift up His name for others to see. The highest form of Christian service is humbly pointing others to Jesus.

You know you’re completely surrendered to Christ when you’re not surrendered to anything else. “Surely you know that when you surrender yourselves as slaves to obey someone, you are in fact the slaves of the master you obey—either of sin, which results in death, or of obedience, which results in being put right with God” (Romans 6:16 GNT).

When Christ is your everything, then it will show. Making Jesus famous won’t be a cause that you live for but a life that promotes His name without even trying. When Jesus is famous to you, then making Jesus famous to others will be the only thing that can pour out from you.

If Christ is in you, then it will show. “I have been crucified with Christ: and I myself no longer live, but Christ lives in me. And the real life I now have within this body is a result of my trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me” (Galatians 2:20 TLB).

Making Jesus famous should never be done to draw attention to yourself, lest you become a hindrance to His ministry. Be satisfied to be a nobody before Him, and He will make you a somebody who will be rewarded when they get to heaven.

What if your lack of popularity proves you’re in the center of God’s will? “For we speak as messengers approved by God to be entrusted with the Good News. Our purpose is to please God, not people. He alone examines the motives of our hearts” (1 Thessalonians 2:4 NLT).

Sometimes, we need to think back on that time when we first gave our lives to Jesus. Remember when He rescued us from ourselves and set us free in His presence. Learn to love Him like when you first loved Him, and making Him famous will happen next.

Jesus is jealous to be your one true love. He wants your whole heart, not just your actions, your words, or your tears. He will not be satisfied by what you do; He wants you. Jesus said, “I know your works… Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent [turn back to Me] and do the first works…” (Revelation 2:2,4-5).

Blessings to you always,

Paul Balius
