Christian, you need to do the right thing. It’s not enough to know the right thing to do, but you must do it. Not the right thing on worldly terms but based on the standards set in heaven. Let the Word be your map, and the Holy Spirit be your guide in everything you do.
You should do the right thing for no other reason than it is the right thing to do. “Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith” (Galatians 6:10 NKJV).
Do the right thing, even though it may be a hard thing to do. Too often, we justify what we do based on the outcome we think it will produce. But from God’s perspective, doing the right thing is more important than whatever the outcome might be.
Do the right thing, even if it hurts. “So then, anyone who knows the right thing to do and fails to do it is committing a sin” (James 4:17 CJB).
Do the right thing, even when people counsel you otherwise. On the final day, it will not be those who counseled you from a worldly perspective that will matter, but your Lord who will evaluate all that you have done, good or bad.
We measure people by their titles, but the Lord measures by what they do. “‘Pay attention!’ [says Yeshua,] ‘I am coming soon, and my rewards are with me to give to each person according to what he has done’” (Revelation 22:12 CJB).
Do the right thing in your relationships. If you have made a commitment, then be true to that commitment. Love the spouse of your youth as you get older, and the Lord will be sure to bless you for it. Love your spouse right into heaven.
Marriage is the earthly natural pattern for your heavenly spiritual relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. It is the most intimate union with no natural bloodlines that establishes a spiritual bond never meant to be broken. “And hasn’t He made [them] one [flesh] in order to have spiritual blood-relatives?…take heed to your spirit, and don’t break faith with the wife of your youth” (Malachi 2:15 CJB).
Do the right thing in your business dealings. Be more fervent in fairness than gaining an advantage. A profit on earth is often a loss in heaven, and the eternal losses will be felt forever. Whether you are fair or not, it forever matters, and know the Lord is watching.
A loss in the world is often a profit for the kingdom. “What profit is there in gaining the whole world when it means forfeiting one’s self?” (Luke 9:25 TLB).
Do the right thing with how you treat people. In the words that you say and the things that you do, let your life be an extension of Christ living through you. Show mercy with your hands, spread grace with your words, and let others feel the love of God within you.
It is equally important to say the right thing as it is to sometimes say nothing at all. “If you claim to be religious but don’t control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless.” (James 1:26 NLT).
Do the right thing at your job. Make decisions based on integrity more than advantage, and follow through with every promise you have made. Spend more time helping others to grow rather than worrying about your own position. Be a plus in the lives of others.
When you work unto the Lord, the Lord will help you in your work. “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving” (Colossians 3:23-24 NIV).
Do the right thing in your ministry. Serve the Lord with good intentions and treat His children with pure motives. Let your work be a sacrifice, and your goals be to please the Lord. Heaven will not measure you by your achievements but by your obedience.
You wouldn’t have to justify yourself so much if you were justified. “We may think we are doing the right thing, but the Lord always knows what is in our hearts. Doing what is right and fair pleases the Lord more than an offering” (Proverbs 21:2-3 CEV).
Do the right thing with every decision that stands before you. Place every choice at the altar of sacrifice and be willing to give up everything so that you can take hold of only the right thing. Let integrity be more important to you than any profit you might gain in the world.
You can talk yourself into anything, so listen to God to do the right thing. “Your own ears will hear him. Right behind you a voice will say, ‘This is the way you should go,’ whether to the right or to the left” (Isaiah 30:21 NLT).
Blessings to you,
