The Further You Go with God

Too many Christians get saved at the altar but never go further with God. They may go further in their studies, and perhaps serve from time to time, but they don’t go further with God, going beyond themselves to where God wants to take them.

You can’t go further with God until you reach the end of yourself. “God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs” (Matthew 5:3 NLT).

You may be saved, but are you spiritual? You may walk a good walk, but are you walking in the Spirit with God? You may call yourself a Christian, but are growing spiritually each day? Going further with God takes one step, and then another, and you just keep going.

You’ll go further with God when you’re walking with God. “…Noah was a righteous man, the only blameless person living on earth at the time, and he walked in close fellowship with God” (Genesis 6:9 NLT).

The further you go with God, the more you realize just how much He loves you. The closer you get to Him, the more you will know His heart. You will know and feel His deep and unconditional love that pours out from His heart into yours.

We all make bad choices we have to live with, but He loves us no matter what. “Because of the Lord’s faithful love we do not perish, for His mercies never end. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness!” (Lamentations 3:22-23 HCSB).

The further you go with God, the more humble you will become. You will see just how high and how holy God is, and from there know how low and how unholy you really are. The higher you go with God, the lower you will be before Him and before others.

The further you go with God, the more clearly you see how much further you have to go. “But like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior; because it is written: ‘You shall be holy, for I am holy.’ (1 Peter 1:15-16 NASB).

The further you go with God, the further you will distance yourself from the religious elitists who argue their doctrines with greater passion than they love the Lord and His children. You won’t even feel the need to defend yourself because God Himself approves of you.

God is more interested that you live a doctrine than you are able to argue it. “But avoid foolish disputes, genealogies, contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and useless” (Titus 3:9 NKJV).

The further you go with God, the less you will try to earn His love or your salvation by the things you do. Instead, you will simply yield to the power of the Holy Spirit to help you live a life pleasing to God, and you’ll give God the glory for helping you.

God isn’t looking to see how holy you can make yourself, but how much you’ll let the Holy Spirit change you. “Let the [Holy] Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes” (Ephesians 4:23 NLT).

The further you go with God, the more clarity you will have on His will for you and the calling that He has on your life. You will stop the fleshly and prideful desires to serve Him in a way that lifts you higher, and instead simply do the little things He is calling you to do.

God can take you further than you can take yourself. “God is my strength and power, and He makes my way perfect. He makes my feet like the feet of deer, and sets me on my high places” (2 Samuel 22:33-34 NKJV).

The further you go with God, the greater you will see the depth of grace that it took for God to redeem you by the blood of His Son, Jesus Christ. His grace was greater than your failures, and His grace can never fail so long as you give your life to Him.

Give yourself grace, God does. “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:16 NKJV).

The further you go with God, the more you realize just how unsearchable the endless depths of God’s knowledge truly are. You will learn much on your journey with Him, and the most important lesson will be that you will be learning for all of eternity.

There is no problem that God does not know the answer to. “Great is our Lord, and mighty in power; His understanding is infinite” (Psalm 147:5 NKJV).

The further you go with God, the less anxious you will be. You won’t worry about things and instead will know that God has you in everything. No matter what circumstance you are in, you will trust that the Lord will never leave you nor forsake you.

In whatever you’re going through, know that God is with you. “And the Lord, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed” (Deuteronomy 31:8 NKJV).

The further you go with God, the less you will be frustrated by the way that other people treat you. You won’t be tethered to the opinions and the gossip that others may have about you, but will instead lean into God and seek His approval in all that you do.

Until it’s only God’s approval that you seek, you’re merely a puppet to the fickle opinions of man. “For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ” (Galatians 1:10 ESV).

The further you go with God, the less you would ever want to turn back and go the other way. You will have a peace that is unshakable, a hope that cannot disappoint, and a confidence that God has your back for all of eternity.

The limit of what God can do in your life is the limit that you let Him. “Submit to God, and you will have peace; then things will go well for you” (Job 22:21 NLT).

Child of God, go further with God. It doesn’t take a strong person to do this, but a willing person who will surrender their will over to Him so that His purposes will be done in their life. Make this choice today, and I promise that you will never regret it.

If you want to go further with God, there are some things you will need to let go of. Jesus taught, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way…” (Matthew 16:24 NLT).

Blessings to you always,

Paul Balius
