Often, we will read something in Scripture and not grasp anywhere near the depth of the inspired Word of God. This was true for me when I read the verse that says, “…pray in the Spirit on all occasions…” (Ephesians 6:18 NIV).
When there is something in the Word of God that I don’t understand, then I ask the Spirit of God to explain it to me. I believe the words that Jesus spoke when He said, “…the Holy Spirit…will teach you all things…“ (John 14:26 NIV).
Child of God, Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to be with us forever, and some of us have not yet been properly introduced. Jesus promised the Father would give you the Holy Spirit “…to help you and be with you forever…” (John 14:16 NIV).
Listen to the Holy Spirit and ask Him to teach you all things. Know that He will be with you forever because it will take forever to teach you all things, and you will need His help forever so that you can live as God has intended for you to live.
We mustn’t confuse praying in the Spirit with the Spirit praying for us. Most certainly, the Holy Spirit can pray on our behalf, but we pray in the Spirit, we are doing the praying, but you can be most certain the Holy Spirit is leading the effort.
But first, to receive spiritual truths, you must go beyond natural limits. You strive in the natural, but in the spiritual, you can only be willing to receive. You do the work in the natural, but the Spirit of God does the work in the spiritual.
“But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned” (1 Corinthians 2:14 NKJV).
Before you can learn spiritual truths, you must first be spiritual. It takes the Holy Spirit to do what you cannot do. It is only in humble helplessness that the Spirit of God will pick you up and give you eyes that you may see.
Praying in the Spirit is not learned in the classroom but in the prayer closet.
You can only pray in the Spirit if first the Spirit is in you.
You cannot pray in the Spirit using your own natural power.
Natural prayers only ask for natural things. “For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit” (Romans 8:5 NKJV).
Never wonder why you remain in the world that you hold onto so tightly. To pray in the Spirit, you cannot remain in the natural.
Praying in the Spirit places you in the spirit realm.
Natural praying has natural limits, but praying in the Spirit reaches into heaven.
Natural prayers move men; praying in the Spirit moves God.
Praying in the natural tells God of your troubles here. Praying in the Spirit tells your troubles about God, whom they have no power over.
Natural prayers can touch the heart of man, but praying in the Spirit places you in the heart of God. “But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God…” (Jude 20-21 NKJV).
Natural prayers make men fall asleep; praying in the Spirit shakes the gates of hell.
Praying in the Spirit only comes from minds renewed in the Spirit.
Natural prayers seek His approval of your will; praying in the Spirit places you into His.
Natural prayers sound good to men; spiritual prayers are good to God.
If you want to pray in the Spirit, you must consecrate from the natural.
Don’t let prayer be your last resort. “Pray in the Spirit at all times. Pray with all kinds of prayers, and ask for everything you need. To do this you must always be ready. Never give up. Always pray for all of God’s people” (Ephesians 6:18 ERV).
Stop trying to define spiritual truths using natural methods.
We have a Holy Spirit that cannot be contained within the textbooks of man.
Child of God, you may not yet realize it, but there is a life that God has for you in which the Holy Spirit can have such a hold of you that you will live a life that you never dreamed possible.
Only the Lord can help you to live a life pleasing to Himself. “…you are not [living] in the flesh [controlled by the sinful nature] but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God lives in you [directing and guiding you]” (Romans 8:9 AMP).
Oh, timid believer, the Spirit of the God who created the heavens and the earth lives inside you. Why do you doubt He can change you? Why do not ask Him to teach you? Why do you not ask Him to show you what it means to pray in the Spirit?
I can teach you what it means to fall in love with another person. But until you fall in love with another person, you don’t really understand. It is the same with you and the Holy Spirit. Do you know Him well enough that you love Him?
The Holy Spirit was sent to help you, teach you, and guide you every day of your life. When you pray in the Spirit, you are praying in the heart of the Father, and you are praying alongside the Son of God as He intercedes with you for others.
Never think a prayer is a prayer, for there are prayers that fall flat on earth, and there are prayers that reach high deep into the throne room of heaven. When you learn to pray in the Spirit, your prayers will be a sweet aroma to your heavenly Father in heaven.
“…the smoke and fragrant aroma of the incense, with the prayers of the saints (God’s people), ascended before God…” (Revelation 8:4 AMP).
Blessings to you always,
Paul Balius
Amen
yes praying in spirit has more power
There is more power in the Holy Spirit than in all the efforts we might do!
