Return to the Holy Spirit

It is my greatest hope that you, as a believer in Christ Jesus, would be filled with the Holy Spirit. That the Holy Spirit would come upon you, covering you and filling you with an amazing, indescribable experience of the fullness of God.

God has a high calling for you and will pour His Spirit into you so that you can reach it. “Be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being…that you may be filled with all the fullness of God” (Ephesians 3:16,19 ESV).

It is also my hope that you will continue to have times of being filled with the Holy Spirit, for as certain as we need to continue breathing the air to keep our bodies alive, so we need to continue being filled with the Holy Spirit to continue effectively in our spiritual lives.

To change the world around you, there must first be a change within you. “Let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy” (Ephesians 4:23-24 NLT).

There may be times for you when you have been in a very dry place. Perhaps you have fallen away from God and left your first love, who is Jesus Christ. And because of this, the Lord has removed your Lampstand, the fullness of the Holy Spirit.

Don’t blame God for the consequences you brought on yourself. Jesus said, “I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place” (Revelation 2:4-5 NKJV).

Never fear that you have fallen so far down that the Lord cannot reach you. Wherever you are, be sure the Lord’s arm has not been shortened yet on this day. He can always reach you; all you need to do is to reach up for Him to grab you.

Stop thinking you’ve fallen so far that God can’t save you. His arm isn’t any shorter today than it was yesterday. “And the LORD said to Moses, ‘Has the LORD’s arm been shortened? Now you shall see whether what I say will happen to you or not’” (Numbers 11:23 NKJV).

If Yeshua has removed the Lampstand, the Holy Spirit, it is because you are in no condition in which the Holy Spirit can flow through you. Don’t agonize over what you have lost but over what you have become. All you need to do is be willing to let the Lord change you.

Obedience is easy when you let the Spirit of God help you. “I will put my Spirit inside you and cause you to live by my laws, respect my rulings and obey them” (Ezekiel 36:27 CJB).

You can never return to where you were before. But you can always go towards something that the Lord has for you. God will forgive your past and then use it to shape your future. Don’t squander the lessons the Lord is teaching you through His discipline.

Some of your worst decisions can be your best lessons. “The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand” (Psalm 37:23-24 NIV).

If you want to be filled with the Holy Spirit again, you must be in a place like you were when you were filled, to begin with. It is always a place where you are emptied of yourself and rely on God to give you what you could never take for yourself.

The most powerful saints in the kingdom are those empty enough to be filled with God. The greater the yielding to the Holy Spirit, the greater the filling of the Holy Spirit. “Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is…be filled with the Spirit” (Ephesians 5:17-18 NKJV). You cannot fill a cup until it is first empty.

Helplessness is a strength to a believer kneeling before an all-powerful God. Don’t you dare think that the Lord will not travel across the galaxies to help you be filled with the Holy Spirit again once you have turned away from whatever it was that hindered Him from helping you.

Ask the Lord what you need to change, and then ask Him to help you. “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me” (Psalm 51:10-11 ESV).

To be filled with the Holy Spirit again is to be filled with the fullness of God. This filling is not an inferior filling with limited results, but the same power that flowed through the great saints of God and the same power that can do miracles through you here on earth.

To the degree you operate apart from the Holy Spirit, you’re on your own. “Seek out from among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom…And they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit…And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and signs among the people.” (Acts 6:3,5,8 NKJV).

Wherever you find yourself, simply turn to God and pray that He will fill you with His Holy Spirit. Ask Him again and again, and be determined in yourself to let Him have His way with you. Give yourself to God, and He will give Himself to you.

You don’t have to pray that God will help you, but only that you’ll let Him. “There’s no one like your God…He rides through the heavens to help you” (Deuteronomy 33:26 GW).

Child of God, you were meant for something more. You were meant to be filled with the Holy Spirit. You were meant to hear the Holy Spirit and to have Him teaching you and guiding you throughout every day that you’re alive. Be thirsty and drink.

Your thirst for the Holy Spirit determines the degree that you will be quenched. To have more, you must want more. The Lord Jesus said, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. …this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive…” (John 7:37,39 NKJV).

If you get a flat tire, you have to patch the hole and then fill it with air. You can’t just fill it with air because it will leak right out. You can’t just patch it because it will remain empty. The same is true if you have become spiritually flat in your life. You need to patch the hole. You need to be filled with the Spirit of God. Then you’ll be ready to go. “…be filled with the Holy Spirit’” (Acts 9:17 NKJV).

Blessings to you always,

Paul Balius
