The Last Day

Every one of us will have a last day. By God’s grace, we don’t usually know when that day will come. Sometimes, we know when we are drawing near to it, but often, we will have no idea. God knows, and God will care for us, both now and on that last day.

Settle your soul, Christian; your last day on earth will be your first day in heaven. “Then he said, ‘Yeshua, remember me when you enter your kingdom.’ Yeshua said to him, ‘I can guarantee this truth: Today you will be with me in paradise.’” (Luke 23:42-43 NOG).

We may have time on that last day to think about some things before the Lord takes us to heaven. Our thoughts will be very different on the last day compared to any other day that we have had before. We would be wise to consider today what will be most important on the last day.

Up to your last breath, use it to praise God. “I will sing to the Lord as long as I live. I will praise my God to my last breath!” (Psalm 104:33 NLT).

On the last day, we will have thoughts of those whom we love the most. Perhaps we will get to tell some of them how we really feel. Most often we will not be able to tell them on that last day, and we will be most blessed if we had told them how we felt ahead of time.

Be the person who doesn’t have to pretend they’re better than they really are. “Don’t just pretend that you love others: really love them. Hate what is wrong. Stand on the side of the good” (Romans 12:9 TLB).

On the last day, so much of the drama that consumed our thoughts before will hardly even matter. Arguments and issues in life will be only distant memories and will instead be replaced with the thoughts of those who mean the most to us.

The Christian faith is not complicated; people are. Just love others. “…If you love others, you have done all that the Law demands” (Romans 13:8 CEV).

On the last day we will never think of how we should have worked harder but only how we should have loved deeper. We will either have more memories of the love we shared or more regrets for the love we withheld. You can only change today which way you will feel at the end.

It’s never too late to start over again. “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness” (Lamentations 3:22-23 ESV).

On the last day, we won’t care two cents for all the things we have gathered. What used to rule our lives will lose all of its grip in a moment, and we will see just how meaningless things really are. What will really matter is that which can only fit inside of our heart.

Worldly prosperity is measured by what you leave behind on earth when you go to heaven. Kingdom prosperity is measured by what you take to heaven when you leave the earth behind you. Jesus taught, “Don’t keep hoarding for yourselves earthly treasures that can be stolen by thieves. Material wealth eventually rusts, decays, and loses its value. Instead, stockpile heavenly treasures for yourselves that cannot be stolen and will never rust, decay, or lose their value. For your heart will always pursue what you value as your treasure” (Matthew 6:19-21 TPT).

On the last day, we will realize with all clarity the distance that still remains between us and God. The closer we are to Him, the more we will long to be in His presence. The further we are from Him, the more we will fear standing before Him. Changes today will make a difference.

Live the life on earth that you would want to be remembered by in heaven. “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad” (2 Corinthians 5:10 NKJV).

It will be a great blessing on the last day for those who served God faithfully. It is a greater blessing to go to heaven with God’s approval over your life than for you to live even one day longer. The greatest rewards are never on earth but reserved for the faithful in heaven.

Kingdom success is measured by who you are, not what you have. “What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what they have done” (Matthew 16:26-27 NIV).

If you lived each day like it might be your last day, then your life would surely be more fulfilling. You would worry less and just pray more, knowing God is always with you. Your frustrations would dwindle because you would compare them to eternity, where they would not last for two seconds.

Live like it is your last day, and watch how kind you are to people. “…be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you” (Ephesians 4:32 NKJV).

Live your life with heaven in your heart and Christ in your mind, and nothing will be able to touch you. Let the Holy Spirit guide your steps and let Christ be your true north, and your life will be on a journey filled with the peace and purpose of heaven forever,

Your last breath on earth leads to your first breath in heaven. “The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life” (Job 33:4 NKJV).

Blessings to you always,

Paul Balius

  1. Beloved brother Paul, I very deeply value your eminently important, forthright addressing this imminent issue, of such paramount preparation to be everlastingly with our forever First Love and all magnificent Obsession, Himself, Christ Jesus, our exceedingly Great and Eternal Reward, in the holy, happy highlands of heaven hereafter. Yes, each of us worshipers in Spirit and in Truth, and in the beauty of His holiness, is well on the way because we are in the wondrous Way exiting this world.

You write, “The Christian faith is not complicated; people are. Just love others. “…If you love others, you have done all that the Law demands” (Romans 13:8 CEV).” This is but one of your several saintly statements that is superbly salient. Thank you, much my esteemed friend. Burning blessings of Jesus’ beauty in your being and intimate blessings of loving affection from His holy heart as Lord of history and King of heaven.

      1. Yes! Jude 21 AMP Guard and keep yourselves in the love of God; expect and patiently wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah)—[which will bring you] unto life eternal.

This morning I asked the Spirit to tell me about this verse. That which
I distinctly heard Him impress upon me was this and gratefully I wrote it in my NKJ AMPC parallel Bible: Ceaselessly continue believing and being an expression, manifestation and demonstration of the merciful love God is for you, in you and through you to others, all the Way (Jesus) unto Life Eternal.

      2. This is the Spirit-filled life we are all meant to live, getting into the Word and asking the Holy Spirit to enlighten us into the meaning and depth and breadth of all that it means!

  2. Thank you for your wisdom, love this. Jesus is faithful and he uses people like you to relay His wisdom. Blessings on you and your family.

    1. Thank you so much. All glory to God, who says we can ask for wisdom and receive it. We all need to keep asking for more wisdom! Thank you for your blessings and your encouragement!
