The Successful Christian

The successful Christian is saved. They do not merely acknowledge that Christ is Lord, for even the demons do that, but rather in their heart Jesus Christ is their Lord. They don’t merely have the title of Christian, but their life is Christian.

If you’re really saved, then your life will show it. “Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you fail to meet the test!” (2 Corinthians 13:5 ESV).

The successful Christian is an ambassador for Christ. They are a witness to His saving grace, and they are the light that shines in the darkness. They may teach classes or preach sermons, or better yet, they may simply be a witness to a dark and fallen world.

As a Christian, there is no place you can go where you’re not representing Christ. “We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God” (2 Corinthians 5:20 NIV).

The successful Christian trusts the Lord. It is when things are the worst that we will see the most just how much we really trust Him. The more you trust the Lord, the less your troubles will overwhelm you. Trusting God is the foundation for going higher in your faith.

It’s more important that you trust God with your problem than He solves it. “Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him. Even so, I will defend my own ways before Him” (Job 13:15 NKJV).

The successful Christian prays to the Lord with faith. They will pray for everything, knowing there is nothing that is too hard for the Lord to do. Their prayers may seem outrageous to men but are found to be pleasing to the Lord, who wants us to have a higher faith in Him.

You pray to the degree you have faith. “Have faith that you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer” (Matthew 21:22 GW).

The successful Christian is a thankful Christian. It is not that they don’t have troubles, but they thank God for helping them through each problem. They have an attitude of gratitude for all the things the Lord has done for them.

Thankfulness is a choice. “Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus” (1 Thessalonians 5:18 NLT).

The successful Christian is the one who sets a good example. They may not be known to many, but to the ones who know them, their faith is evident in what they say and do. It’s more important that we live a message than we are able to preach one.

To draw people higher, you must first be higher. “Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity” (1 Timothy 4:12 NLT).

The successful Christian is humble. They do not think of themselves as great or imagine themselves better than anyone else. They don’t call themselves humble but only remain humble in the way they live their life before others. Humility is when we see ourselves as we really are.

The more you see how small you are, the bigger the things God can do through you. “Humble yourselves [with an attitude of repentance and insignificance] in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you [He will lift you up, He will give you purpose]” (James 4:10 AMP).

The successful Christian serves other people. They do not think the service is beneath them but realize that when serving others, they are serving the Lord Jesus Christ. They don’t care if they are seen by men, knowing they are seen by the Lord Himself.

It doesn’t matter how big your calling is, but only that you do it. “As each one has received some spiritual gift, he should use it to serve others, like good managers of God’s many-sided grace” (1 Peter 4:10 CJB).

The successful Christian is content with being unsuccessful on the world’s terms. They are not moved when others look down on them but only faithfully live for Christ. They are at peace in their life because they have Christ in their hearts.

Until you’re content with what you have, you’ll never be content. “Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you’” (Hebrews 13:5 NIV).

Blessings to you,

Paul Balius
