For several years I served alongside a deliverance minister. This is a critical ministry as we have so many that need to be delivered from the demonic strongholds in their life. Perhaps you have some demonic stronghold in your life that you need to be delivered from.
Jesus never asks us to do something we could never do. Jesus commanded, “Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give” (Matthew 10:8 NKJV).
The problem we have in our modern sterilized Christianity is that there are few who are ready or willing to do the dirty work of dealing with demons. There is even a fear of admitting demonic strongholds, yet all we need do is watch the nightly news to see the carnage happening around us.
If you don’t cast the demons, then you keep the demons. The Lord Jesus prophesied, “And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues” (Mark 16:17 NJKV).
Jesus was in the deliverance ministry and taught His disciples to do the same. There are no fewer demons in this world today than there were in the days of Christ, yet how many do you know that are casting demons out of the lives of those around them?
If you want to call yourself His disciple, then you need to act like one. “And they cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many who were sick, and healed them” (Mark 6:13 NKJV).
We must understand that to battle demons, we must rely entirely upon the power and authority of Jesus. The demons know who Jesus is and know they cannot defeat Him. The demons also know if we have Christ in us when we come against them.
“But the evil spirit retorted, ‘I know and recognize and acknowledge Jesus, and I know about Paul, but as for you, who are you?’ (Acts 19:15 AMP).
We must never underestimate the power of the demonic realm. It is no joking matter nor something to consider lightly when dealing with the powers of darkness. Look around the world and just watch the news, and you’ll see just how dark the darkness truly is.
Spiritual warfare is never won on natural grounds. “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 6:12 NKJV).
We need never fear the darkness when we have the light within us. We must realize the power of darkness but also realize the greater power of light. We know how the story ends, and we can trust that the Lord will always have us so long as we remain in Him.
Light always shines forth. If Christ is in you, then Christ is through you. “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light” (Ephesians 5:8 NKJV).
I remember for years having demons walk around behind me as I would lie down at night to go to bed. It was absolutely unsettling as I felt them walking up and down behind me. Yet I knew, and I told them that I belonged to Jesus, and they had no right to touch me.
If a saint refuses to fight, by their forfeit, the devil wins. The Apostle Paul said, “This charge I commit to you, son Timothy…wage the good warfare” (1 Timothy 1:18 NKJV).
I remember seeing people delivered from demons that possessed them when I was in the deliverance ministry. There is nothing more glorious than to see somebody set free from the power of darkness over to the marvelous light of Jesus Christ.
You were meant for something more. “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light” (1 Peter 2:9 NKJV).
We get so weird about admitting demons in our life that we don’t want to admit that they are there. We need to cast them from our presence and forbid them in our homes. We need to draw lines around where we work and the places that we visit. Demons are real, and they must be dealt with.
You need to walk in the authority that Jesus has given you. Jesus promised, “Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you” (Luke 10:19 NKJV).
For a time, I had to do some deliverance, and I felt completely inadequate and untrained on what to do. I read books and remembered the deliverance ministry I had been a part of, and nothing resonated that would help me. Finally, I just relied on Jesus, and that is all it took.
When it comes to spiritual warfare, do this: cling to Christ and let Him be your strength. “Moses answered the people, ‘Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still’” (Exodus 14:13-14 NIV).
If you are ever interested in learning more about spiritual warfare and the deliverance ministry, I would highly recommend the book “I Give You Authority” written by Charles Kraft. We all have demons coming against us and our families, and we would be wise to learn how to battle them.
Blessings to you,
