Finding Your Purpose

You are here on earth for a reason. God has a plan for you and a purpose for your life. God knew you before time began, and He knows all that is in your future. He knows every detail about you because He has included every detail for a reason. God never makes a mistake.

Be the one that God can use to build His kingdom. “The Lord wants to use you for special purposes, so make yourself clean from all evil. Then you will be holy, and the Master can use you. You will be ready for any good work” (2 Timothy 2:21 ERV).

God formed you in your mother’s womb, and He fashioned you to live out His purposes for your life. You can do what no other person can do because He designed you with everything you need to do it. You do not have to worry about what your purpose is but only ask the Lord to show you.

If the Lord has given you a vision, then He will make a way. The purposes of God are never dependent upon the provisions of man. “I know that You can do everything, and that no purpose of Yours can be withheld from You” (Job 42:2).

There are many well-meaning programs designed to help you discover your gifts for serving God. The problem with these programs is they rely upon the natural things that man can see and do not seek the hidden things only known to God. Moses could not speak in the natural, but God made him His spokesman. God can accomplish more in your weakness than in your strength.

God’s purposes for you do not depend on your abilities. “But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty” (1 Corinthians 1:27).

You need the Holy Spirit in you for the purposes of God to flow from you. “And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power” (1 Corinthians 2:4).

Your natural abilities will often be a hindrance to God because in them you rely upon yourself. Don’t think God needs your natural talent to achieve supernatural success for the kingdom. God may use your abilities, but often only after He brings about your surrender.

You don’t need a title to be used by God. “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10).

Too often, people chase the ministry they want instead of the ministry God has for them, and the result is they end up floundering. Fish can’t fly and birds can’t swim, yet people try to be something that God did not intend for them to be. Divine purposes trump natural inclinations.

When we are filled with the Holy Spirit, we are filled with the purposes of God. “God is the one who enables you both to want and to actually live out His good purposes” (Philippians 2:13 CEB).

When I first sought to serve the Lord, I wanted it to be in a comfortable ministry. God had other plans. The Lord put me into an impossible ministry and then forced me to fall before Him that He would help me. We have too many Christians serving Him by their own strength and not falling down before Him in their weakness.

You are either walking in the plans of man or the purposes of God. The difference is one looks good to men, and the other is ordained of God. “…being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will” (Ephesians 1:11).

One great hindrance to finding your purpose is in thinking it must be great by the world’s standards. God operates by the standards of heaven. Our pride blinds our vision from the kingdom. One small act in humility before God could move mountains and change nations for the kingdom.

Kingdom life is about purpose, not position. Jesus taught, “…If anyone desires to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all” (Mark 9:35).

You will rarely find your purpose for God asking other people. If you want to know what God wants from you, then just get on your knees and ask Him. His purposes for you are not always one grand lifelong purpose, but a daily purpose for all that He puts before you. You don’t have to be perfect to serve Him, but only willing.

Even in your mistakes, God can use you for His glory. “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28).

Blessings to you,

Paul

  1. Brother Paul,
This message could not be more perfectly timed by the H.S. than today. If it was for Just one person, it was for me.
He has me at a point where I am all alone and have no one now in my life. My daughter has recently moved and I am in great need of a financial blessing, in order to make her end that once helped me. I work as an essential.worker in a day are and I love working with children..I am at a surrendered poi t in my.life..even anger has to surrender because I did not welco.e this change at all in my life. But God knew it, therefore, I must refocus and trust he has a plan for me but I want it to be back for Him. Shalom.

    1. My Sister Maria, apologies on my delayed response. I am so blessed by your message. I know that you are surrendering yourself to God, and it will be in that surrendering where I am sure He will gain a victory in your life. It is often in our struggles where we come to know the Lord the most. I pray in the weeks and months ahead that the Lord will make Himself known to you in greater measures. Prayers for you. Paul

  2. EVEN THOUGH I WAS RAISED IN A CHRISTIAN HOME I WAS NOT TAUGHT ANY THING SPECIFICLY ABOUT GOD.I GREW UP IN A DISFUNCTIONAL FAMILY IN HARLEM.; AS THE YOUNEST OF A FAMILY OF FIVE CHILDREN. I BELIEVED THERE WAS A GOD BECAUSE OF WHAT MY MOTHER BELEIVED BUT I TAUGHT THE GIFT OF VISION THAT THAT SHE HAD, WAS FOR HER AND NOT FOR ME..

WHEN I GAVE MY LIFE TO THE LORD IT WAS AFTER BEING REBELIOUS,.I HAD BECOME SO SICK AND TIERED OF MAKING WRONG CHOICES AND HEARING A VOICE [MY COUNSIENCE] WHICH WAS TELLING ME I WAS THE SOLUTION TO MY PROBLEM.. I KNEW THEN THAT SOMETHING HAD TO CHANGE, SO I BEGAN SEARCHING FOR THE GOD I NEVER KNEW..

THIS SEEKING IN MY OWN FLESH LEAD ME TO DIFFICULT CIRCUMSTANCES AND AFTER MANY WRONG TURNS AND EVEN NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCES; THE SEED THAT HAD BEEN PLANTED THROUGH MY MOTHERS PRAYERS BEGAN TO GROW AND THE GRACE OF GOD MEET ME AT MY LOWEST AND AS I SURRENDERED MY BROKENESS TO HIM HE FILLED ME WITH SO MUCH LOVE THAT I FELL INLOVE WITH HIM AND AN INTIMATE RELATIONSHIP BEGAN AS I READ HIS WORD AND THE HOLY SPIRIT HELPED ME WATER THE SEED THAT HAD BEEN PLANTED SO MANY YEARS AGO.

I HAD SUCH A ZEAL FOR GOD BECAUSE HE HAD RESCUED ME FROM AN OVERDOSE OF PILLS AND A HEART ATTACKED THAT ALMOST DISTROYED MY LIFE AND I KNEW I COULD NOT CONTINUE THIS LIFE THAT WAS DISTROYING ME. HE PUT ME ON A PATH THAT LED ME TO MY MINISTRY TODAY.
FROM SALVATION I JUST WANTED TO READ AND LEARN ALL THAT I COULD SO I COULD PROCLAIME THE GOSPEL TO WHOM EVER GOD PUT IN MY PATH. AS I WENT THROUGH DISCIPLESHIP I WANTED TO SERVE THE LORD FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE.. I WENT ON ON A FEW MISSION TRIPS AND ENJOYED GOING TO OPHANAGES TO HELP SERVE WHAT EVER THE NEED WAS AND WAS PLANING A TRIP TO UGANDA BEFORE THIS [COVID-19] VIRUS ENTERED OUR ATHMOSPHERE.

MY MISSION “EACH ONE REACH ONE TEACH ONE SEND ONE” WILL NOT STOPPED BUT WILL MOVE FORWARD AS GOD LEADS ME. I AM STILL HEAR SO IT’S NOT OVER UNTIL GOD SAYS IT’S OVER. STAYING FAITHFUL IN PRAYER WITHOUT CEASING WAITING AND PRESSING IN NOT GOING BACKWARDS BUT PUSHING FORWARD AS THE HOLY SPIRIT LEADS ME..THANK YOU GOD FOR EVENTHOUGH YOU SEEM FAR AWAY, YOU SAID BE STILL AND KNOW I AM GOD AND YOU ARE STILL IN CONTROL. NOTHING HAPPENS THAT YOU DID NOT KNOW BECAUSE NOTHING IS A SURPRISE TO YOU. YOUARE EVERYWHERE!

    1. My Sister Ruth, your testimony will move many and bless all who get a chance to read it. The Lord has many plans and none of them can be thwarted, but will come to pass as He intends them to. Blessings to you in your faith journey.

  3. Hi Paul I was so blessed by your word today. I especially am blessed by the way you confirm everything you say with the truth in God’s Word. Eph 2. 10 has really been ministering to me.. I think the very first scripture I. Learned was “God is aways at work in me making me willing an able to fulfill His purpose” it really is His workmanship. He is so loving and caring and the precious Holy Spirit teaches us and works in us as we surrender and yield to Him. How blessed we are to be His children, When we learn to really receive and begin to understand with all our hearts His love, things start to happen.. It’s a journey, 44 years on down the road I’m so grateful and deeply touched and transformed by our precious Savior and glorious Father’s amazing love. Thank you I love what you write.

    1. Hi Vee! Thank you so much for your encouraging words that just blessed me so much! We are so very blessed when we can be in the Word, stand on the Word, and learn the Word from the Holy Spirit! Oh, how much grief we would avoid if we would stay firmly planted in the Word of God! What a blessing you have been to me, and I am sure as God has transformed you, that you are a blessing to many. May God richly pour out His endless favor over your life! Blessings, Paul.
