The Spirit of Counsel and Might

Recently I wrote on the Seven Spirits of the Lord. “…Seven lamps of fire were burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God” (Revelation 4:5).

These Seven Spirits are described in Isaiah 11:2: “The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him, The Spirit of wisdom and understanding, The Spirit of counsel and might, The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.”

Seven-01

This verse was a prophetic promise of the fullness of the Holy Spirit that would come upon Jesus. This same prophetic promise is for us. This fullness is available for those willing to be filled.

It is one thing to be saved by God, and another to be filled of God. The one gets you into heaven, the other gets heaven into you. “…that you may be filled with all the fullness of God” (Ephesians 3:19).

I wrote about the first pair for these Seven Spirits called, “The Spirit of Wisdom and Revelation”. These first two attributes are a balanced pair, each one relying upon the other, each one supporting the other.

The Spirit of counsel and might are also a pair. You can have all the counsel in the world, but without the strength to carry it out there is little you will accomplish. And conversely, you can have all the strength in the world, but without good counsel your strength will soon be your ruin.

This Spirit of Counsel and Might is not something you can grab hold of, but you are to be filled with. You cannot be filled of the Holy Spirit by your efforts, but by His. “…that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man” (Ephesians 3:16).

The Spirit of Counsel and Might shows you what to do and then gives you the power to do it. “I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them” (Ezekiel 36:27).

You know if you were led by the Holy Spirit by where you end up. “Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it…’” (Isaiah 30:21).

The Holy Spirit can guide us if we would only follow. Jesus said, “However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth…” (John 16:13).

God gives you counsel and might together to build you, but the Devil will only give you one to destroy you. Where you lack balance things will spin out of control. Balance requires pairs. “With Him are wisdom and strength, He has counsel and understanding” (Job 12:13).

Do you want to have the fullness of the Holy Spirit? Ask your Father in heaven and you will be surprised at how much He is longing to answer this prayer. Jesus taught, “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!” (Luke 11:13).

You must listen for the Holy Spirit that you can hear His counsel. Jesus taught, “…do not worry about how or what you should answer, or what you should say. For the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say” (Luke 12:11-12).

The Lord prevails through your weakness and the world cannot understand. The Lord says, “…My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness…”. (2 Corinthians 12:9).

When you are weak before God, He will be your strength before men. “He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength” (Isaiah 40:29).

I can always tell someone who is weak in the Lord as they are strong in themselves. We cannot gain the fullness of the Holy Spirit so long as we are full of ourselves. Just because you impress men does not mean you have the approval of God.

God doesn’t need your help, you need His. “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you…” (Isaiah 41:10).

Blessings to you,

Paul Balius

Do you have any books ?

    1. Hi Carol-Ann, thank you so much for your kind words! I pray that through the dark times you will then see the light of Christ shining brightly before you. We have a Lord who is always with us. I have one book published, it is called The promise of the Holy Spirit. If you search my full name on amazon you can find it. If it is too much there, I am glad to help if it ships to USA. Blessings to you!

    1. Hello Kim! What a wonderful thing to be studying on with the Spirit of Counsel. There is so much in God’s Word that we have yet to find or have yet to take hold of. It is that longing and searching that help us to find so much more. Thank you for your kind words! Blessings always, Paul.

  13. I appreciate your scholarship on the subject of God’s faithfulness to perform His Word in the area of counsel and might, and the “pairings” he provides for balance in our faith walk. I am praying these scriptures over my son today as he interviews for a higher level position in his profession. And I know God is faithful.

  15. Dianne Brizendine…I came to a decision tonight by the help of Spirit of Council and Might!! I prayed about a situation and realized I needed the council of the Spirit of Council and I needed the Spirit of Might to give me the strength to follow through with my decision. I am taking my hands off of the situation letting go and letting God!!! HE HAS ME!!

    1. Hello Dianne, prayers for you as the Holy Spirit leads you on your decisions, that you would be sensitive to those leadings and obedient to follow Him wherever He might lead you. We are so blessed that the Lord is willing to help us in every area of our lives. Blessings to you!

  16. Hello Paul, I believe some Bible versions are better than others. Let me give an example, some Bible have take out some key verses and key parts of verses. For example:
    * **Does your Bible omit fasting from these verses:
Mt 17:21 “However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.” (if this type of unclean spirit does not come out except by prayer and fasting, and your Bible version is missing that information, all your prayers will not suffice.)
Ac 10:30 So Cornelius said, “Four days ago I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour

*** Does your Bible omit these key verses from Mark 16: (Some Bible translations have these verses removed)
    17 “And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues;
18 “they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

To copyright a book it needs to be at least 10% different than another work. So to make money, these new Bible translations need to add, remove, and/or change the words being used to get to that 10% difference so they can copyright their new translation. Personally I have found the NKJV easy to read. Their are other Bibles out there are very accurate. I feel the Bibles that are based on the Textus Receptus are more accurate than the Bibles that are based on translations that remove and add to God’s word.

The easiest ways to verify if you have a good translation is to go to Mark 1 verse 2.The good translation indicates “As it is written in the prophets”, whereas the translations/versions that are not so good.

NKJV (Good Translation) KJV as well, but NKJV is easier to read for me.
2 As it is written in the Prophets: “Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, Who will prepare Your way before You.”

The translation above is more accurate because as you can see in the verse below is writing about the same thing.
Malachi 3:1 ¶ “Behold, I send My messenger, And he will prepare the way before Me. And the Lord, whom you seek, Will suddenly come to His temple, Even the Messenger of the covenant, In whom you delight. Behold, He is coming,” Says the LORD of hosts.

Other Translations changes prophets to Isaiah the prophet: NIV, NLT, ESV, BSB, BLB, NASB, ASV, a
    2. “AS it is written in Isaiah the prophet”
Malachi was a prophet, why did they remove him?

These Bibles have a lot of other changes but my comment is already too long.

One easy way to find out if you have a good translation, go to Mark 1 verse 2. It it indicates “as it is written in the prophets” it means your Bible translation is based on the Textus Receptus and it is a more accurate translation.

If the Bible translators don’t treat the Bible as the holy Word of God and are willing to add or remove words and even entire verses, I would be wary of what else they would change. There are already some Bible versions that have adopted gender-neutral language. (NRSV, TNIV)

One of the sneaky ways they use when they change words and verses from the Bible is to change a little bit over time. Usually each revision will have at least some minor changes from the previous version. If God’s word doesn’t change, why would some of these Bible versions need to make changes to their own version of the Bible from previous versions of their own Bible version?

May the Lord richly bless you. Be strong in the Lord and the power of His might.

    1 Col 15:58
58 ¶ Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.

    1. Thank you so much for all your words on the many translations there are out there. I had often wondered in years past what the best translation was. I had grown up on KJV, and then moved to NIV and later NASB based on churches I had gone to. I moved to ESV for a time but then spent a few decades mostly in NKJV, for no other reason than it was the main translation used in the prisons where I ministered for fourteen years. I enjoy several versions now, but I know people may hold to one particular version. That is why on my Facebook and Instagram posts my devotions reference the verse but let the reader choose the version they prefer. Some are very adamant about their version and I want to respect that. What I find is that the problem is usually people don’t read any translation, and if they do they rarely live it to any meaningful degree. But I agree, if we are going deeper into the Word we should work from a solid version. I believe the best is the original, so learning Hebrew and Greek, as I have found the English language simply does not contain the words to do a word-for-word translation. I like the Bible Hub where you can use the Interlinear to review Scripture and drill into the original words deeper. Blessings to you on your studies!

  17. This message on the Spirit of counsel and might has blessed my soul. It is a must to receive the 7 Spirits of God. It is our power 💥 in which we need. Thank you for this.

  18. Thank you Paul for making it so much easier to understand this part of scripture. God Bless you.
God may I receive the fullness of the Holy Spirit

    1. Sorry for such a late reply, been wrapping up my latest book. I pray someday the Lord would have me write more on the Seven Spirits, but I just where He tells me. I pray you too are going and doing as the Lord is calling you. Blessings to you!

  19. I suppose The Seven Spirits of God have always in operation even before Genesis 1:1
As for the New Testament believers we need to know MORE of the 3rd Person of the Godhead. Fill me Lord with Your Spirit, daily.

    1. Oh yes, I believe the Holy Spirit, the fullness of the Seven Spirits of God, has been here for all of eternity. Just like Jesus as was written in John 1:1-3. And i am so in agreement with you how much believers in our day need to learn and then experience the presence and the power of the Holy Spirit in their lives. Blessings to you!

  20. This was an insightful read.

The more I searched within the word, the more I got illuminated and discovered your blog filled with mind-blowing revelations.

I celebrate you for all you do and the many lives thought which this messages blessed and will bless.

    1. Thank you so much for your kind words and the encouragement that you bring into my life. Praying that the Lord will use you in mighty ways for the kingdom!
