The God Who Goes Before You

Sooner or later you will reach the end of your confidence and the beginning of despair. We all like to think we are a lot stronger than we really are, but it does not take very much to find out otherwise. We are but a single circumstance from having our world turned upside down.

For some it will be at their rock bottom where they will find the Lord. And this is the very reason that He will allow them to fall so far. Never get in His way by trying to help those He is doing a work on. Simply point them to the One that they so desperately need.

For others, it is at their rock bottom where they truly learn to trust in the Lord. Where the verses they had memorized long ago have now gained a greater meaning. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding” (Proverbs 3:5). It is much easier to trust in the Lord until that is the only thing you have left to do.

Sometimes God makes things impossible for you so you will know it is only by His power that you can prevail. Say what you will, but if life were easy you would not turn to God as you do. It is a divine principle that the character of man is shaped by the hardest of circumstances. We never pray for the trial, but we can learn to be thankful in the outcome.

Earthly worries thrive in your natural abilities. Stop looking at your circumstances believing you are on your own. You are not on your own. Jesus Himself prays for you. The Holy Spirit lives inside you. The God of all creation goes before you. “For you shall not go out with haste, Nor go by flight; For the Lord will go before you, And the God of Israel will be your rear guard” (Isaiah 52:12). The Lord will go before you, but only if you follow Him.

Never let your feelings guide your faith, but let your faith guide how you feel. Approach life with the faith that God goes before you, and know nothing can stand against Him. You will not worry as much about what lies ahead, when at once you realize who goes before you. “The Lord your God, who goes before you, He will fight for you…” (Deuteronomy 1:30).

You know your faith has been raised, when you start to pray for anyone who comes against you. They have no idea of the God that goes before you! When you trust God with everything, you never have to worry about anything. The grandest moment in the life of a saint is when they can laugh at uncertainty in the face and welcome the unknown without fear. “…If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31).

Sometimes God makes it seem as if He has forsaken you, that you would discover He never will. “And the Lord, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed” (Deuteronomy 31:8).

When you will embrace the true and everlasting confidence that the Lord is with you, then never again will the antics of man or the uncertainty of life be able to turn your world upside down. “Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you” (Deuteronomy 31:6).

Blessings to you,

Paul
