Spirit-Filled

You were meant to be filled with the Holy Spirit. By the eternal plans and purposes of God, there is a void within you that can only be filled by the Spirit of God. Just as God gave man a woman to complete His creation, so He gave His own Spirit to complete us all.

When you are filled by the Holy Spirit, you are no longer just a man or a woman. Micah the prophet said, “But truly I am full of power by the Spirit of the Lord…” (Micah 3:8 NKJV).

There is a spiritual thirst that can only be quenched by spiritual water. You may go a year or several decades trying to quench this thirst in another way, but it is only when you drink from spiritual rivers that your thirst will be satisfied for all of eternity.

Spiritual thirst can never be quenched by natural sources. Jesus promised, “but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst…” (John 4:14 NKJV).

When you are Spirit-filled, then there will be a spiritual outpouring. Just as the Tabernacle could not restrain the Lord, so it is with us as temples of the Holy Spirit, that we cannot restrain Him within us.

You can accomplish more in one day filled with the Holy Spirit than a lifetime full of yourself. “Barnabas was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and strong in faith. And many people were brought to the Lord” (Acts 11:24 NLT).

Just as the people could not enter the Temple when it was filled with the Spirit of God, so it is true with us as His temples that the natural cannot enter into us so long as we are filled with the Spirit of God.

“And the priests could not enter the house of the Lord, because the glory of the Lord had filled the Lord’s house” (2 Chronicles 7:2 NKJV).

God does not dwell in buildings fashioned by man, but in man fashioned by Himself. “Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?” (1 Corinthians 3:16 NKJV). The Holy Spirit fills you to the degree that you let Him.

In my experience, I have seen that the more filled someone is with themselves and the natural reasoning and desires of this world, the less they can be filled with the Spirit of God. It is not that they will not be saved, but in that condition, they cannot be filled.

We’re not meant to only be filled with the Holy Spirit; we’re meant to be changed by the Holy Spirit. “Let the Spirit change your way of thinking and make you into a new person” (Ephesians 4:23 CEV).

The only way to fill a container with one thing is to first remove all other things. You are that container, and it is the things of this world that you hold onto, especially the right to yourself, that hinder the Holy Spirit from reigning in you.

You must empty a cup so that it will be filled with something new. “…that you may be filled with all the fullness of God” (Ephesians 3:19 NKJV).

If you are willing to let God pour His Spirit into you, no matter the cost, He will most certainly do it. When you seek to be filled with the Spirit of God, you are in line with His perfect will as you surrender yourself over to Him.

The more selfless you are, the more that God can fill you. “…understand what the will of the Lord is… be filled with the [Holy] Spirit” (Ephesians 5:17-18 NKJV).

Being filled with the Holy Spirit does not take any effort at all on your part, but only a giving up of the things you are holding onto so that you will make room for the Holy Spirit to dwell within you. He is willing if you are willing.

The presence of God never depends upon the efforts of man. You need never plead for the Holy Spirit to fill you, but only ask. “…that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man …that you may be filled with all the fullness of God” (Ephesians 3:16,19 NKJV). All your efforts are but a hindrance to what He alone can grant you.

There are more spiritually empty Christians than there are Spirit-filled Christians because most churches rarely, if ever, teach or promote being baptized in the Holy Spirit. It is the religion of man that gets in the way of the power of God, and people love to have it that way.

God allows man to baptize you into water, but it is the Lord Jesus Christ who will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. John the Baptist spoke of Jesus: “I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire” (Matthew 3:11 NKJV).

The proof of a person’s spiritual emptiness is the abundance of things and ways of this world that they hold onto. There is little difference between the spiritually empty Christian and the pagan because both are operating void of the Spirit of God.

Seek to be so filled with the Holy Spirit that you won’t have any room left to fill up with the things of this world. “Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit” (Ephesians 5:18 NLT).

You know when the Spirit of God is reigning within you by the way in which you live your life. It is not measured in spiritual gifts or miraculous wonders, but in the simplicity and humility of the life you live, in how you treat others, led by the Spirit of God.

What comes out of your life is dependent on what you put into it. This is how you can tell if you’re filled with the Holy Spirit. “The fruit that the [Holy] Spirit produces in a person’s life is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control” (Galatians 5:22-23a ERV).

There is no better way to live your life than to have the Spirit of God dwelling richly within you. Make it the determination of your will to be surrendered to God and to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Your life will never be the same with the Holy Spirit reigning from within.

Once you are filled with the Holy Spirit, your life will never be the same. Father God promised, “I will put my Spirit inside you. And I will help you live by my rules. You will be careful to obey my laws” (Ezekiel 36:27 ICB).

If you want to be filled with the Holy Spirit, then ask for it. Jesus said to keep asking because we need to keep being filled, because in the dryness of this world, we need to be filled up each day so that the spiritual rivers would continue to flow from our hearts.

You cannot be spiritual without the Spirit. “If you then, evil as you are, know how to give good gifts [gifts that are to their advantage] to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask and continue to ask Him!” (Luke 11:13 AMPC).

The problem we have is never God’s limit of giving, but rather it is our limit of receiving. To receive, we must believe. The only power in the universe that can limit God’s power through us is us. Jesus said, “‘He who believes in Me…out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’ …He spoke concerning the [Holy] Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive…” (John 7:38-39 NKJV).

What flows from your heart?

Blessings to you always,

Paul Balius
