Every person has a choice in whether they will live their best life or not. This best life is different for each one of us because our circumstances are never the same between us. Your best life is different than my best life.
Every choice is an opportunity to change your life. “Establish my steps and direct them by [means of] Your word; let not any iniquity have dominion over me” (Psalm 119:133 AMPC).
Too often, we think that our best life is hindered by people or circumstances that interfere with all that we could have in our lives. But that is not the measure of your best life, for your best life depends on how you live in the midst of your circumstances.
The Lord is more interested in changing the man than his circumstances. “After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace [who imparts His blessing and favor], who called you to His own eternal glory in Christ, will Himself complete, confirm, strengthen, and establish you [making you what you ought to be]” (1 Peter 5:10 AMP).
Living your best life is having the life of Christ reigning in you. God designed us such that we were meant to be living in communion with Him. A life lived apart from Christ is a life living beneath the potential that God has designed for you to have.
Your best life is Christ’s life reigning in you. “I have been crucified with Christ [that is, in Him I have shared His crucifixion]; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body I live by faith [by adhering to, relying on, and completely trusting] in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me” (Galatians 2:20 AMP).
No matter how spiritual we think we are, our flesh continues to distort our view of our life by comparing ourselves to other people around us. We ask the Lord, “What about that other person?” and the Lord replies, “What about you?”
The world may be unfair, but what about you? “He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?” (Micah 6:8 NKJV).
The closer to Christ, the better your life, and there is no other alternative. The world will hold up the pleasures of this life as its sign of the best life by man’s standards. But such a worldly life is like a mist that will evaporate and leave them empty in the end.
The closer to Christ, the calmer the soul. Jesus promised, “Peace I leave with you; My [perfect] peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be afraid. [Let My perfect peace calm you in every circumstance and give you courage and strength for every challenge.]” (John 14:27 AMP).
Living your best life is living an eternal life, even though you still occupy a temporary body. You understand that every defect and deficiency that you have is only temporal, and you keep your eyes firmly set on the things above and not on those things below.
If you want to live higher, you have to think higher. “Set your mind and keep focused habitually on the things above [the heavenly things], not on things that are on the earth [which have only temporal value]” (Colossians 3:2 AMP).
Too many people hold onto those things that they believe will make them feel happy. But it is often those very things that are holding onto them and preventing them from living their best life for the Lord.
You’re in bondage to whatever you hold onto. “…A person is a slave to whatever he gives in to” (2 Peter 2:19 GW).
From God’s viewpoint, your best life is not measured by worldly standards but by the divine standards established in heaven before the world ever existed. It is better to die in righteousness than to live a life apart from God.
Be as intent towards righteousness as you used to be towards sin. “He gave himself for us; he died to free us from all evil. He died to make us pure people who belong only to him—people who are always wanting to do good things” (Titus 2:14 ICB).
If you want to live your best life, then you will need to surrender to the Lord so that He can help you. Your best life is not found through your efforts but through your yielding to a God who alone can help you to reach your potential.
God isn’t as concerned about what you can do but about what you will let Him do in your life. “But the Lord said, ‘My grace is all you need. Only when you are weak can everything be done completely by my power.’ So I will gladly boast about my weaknesses. Then Christ’s power can stay in me.” (2 Corinthians 12:9 ERV).
Living your best life does not mean it will be an easy life. The Lord is often hardest on those who are closest to Him because it is through them that He can reach other people. Suffering is a tool by which God prepares His workers to be more effective.
The benefit of pain is that it can change things in our lives that pleasure never could. “…we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces…” (Romans 5:3 ESV).
The way to start living your best life is to take the first step. Don’t imagine what your best life will be, but trust the Lord can help you live it. You will be content when you learn to trust that the Lord will always give you what you really need.
Until you’re satisfied with a little, you’ll never be content with more. “Now godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content” (1 Timothy 6:6-8 NKJV).
Living your best life will be a life that the Lord can use for His kingdom. If you want to reach other people for the Lord, you must first surrender your life so that the Lord reaches you. Give Him your life, and then He will give you His life.
Imagine your life surrendered to God. “Sin must no longer rule in your mortal bodies, so that you obey the desires of your natural self. Nor must you surrender any part of yourselves to sin to be used for wicked purposes. Instead, give yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life, and surrender your whole being to him to be used for righteous purposes” (Romans 6:12-13 GNT).
Blessings to you always,
