The Spiritual Gift of Faith

Just as God gave you natural abilities, He can also give you supernatural ones. “Now there are [distinctive] varieties of spiritual gifts [special abilities given by the grace and extraordinary power of the Holy Spirit operating in believers]… to another [wonder-working] faith [is given] by the same [Holy] Spirit” (1 Corinthians 12:4,9 AMP).

Too often, we think of faith as something we can attain when in fact it is a gift of God. The question, though, is what will you do with the faith God has given to you? This choice will determine what God can do through you.

God will take you as high in your faith as you’ll let Him. “Don’t be like the people of this world, but let God change the way you think. Then you will know how to do everything that is good and pleasing to him” (Romans 12:2 CEV).

I wrote a book called The Higher Faith that teaches the great importance of growing to the potential of the faith God gave you. The more faith we take hold of, the more that God can do through us, because it’s our faith that opens up the door for Him to pour through.

What would you pray for if you had faith that God could really do it? “Jesus said to him, ‘If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes’” (Mark 9:23 NKJV).

We were all given a measure of faith from God, and we can all reach for the potential of that faith He has given us. There is much more potential in your life than you can even imagine. Reach for it and trust God to help you along the way.

Faith is not a prize, but a gift. You cannot earn faith, but only receive it. “…God has dealt to each one a measure of faith” (Romans 12:3 NKJV).

The spiritual gift of faith is something much grander than the faith given to most of God’s children. It is a faith of heavenly proportions with the supernatural power to produce signs and wonders unhindered by the natural laws of our planet.

To the degree you operate apart from the Holy Spirit, you’re on your own. “Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and signs among the people.” (Acts 6:8 NKJV).

This spiritual gift of faith is a supernatural faith poured into you by the power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus said that faith as small as a mustard seed could move mountains. Can you imagine what faith the size of a mountain could do?

Not even the mountains can say no to a man or a woman who has faith. Jesus taught us, “For assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you” (Matthew 17:20 NKJV).

This supernatural faith believes in all that God can do, knowing that nothing is impossible for Him. It is this kind of faith that can do miracles and wonders that defy nature and it’s a faith that can raise those from the dead who should no longer have life.

The Lord of the supernatural has no natural limits in the natural He created. Stop praying like an unbeliever. Jesus can walk on water, feed the hungry, heal the sick, give sight to the blind, and raise the dead. Believe. “Jesus said to him, ‘If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes’” (Mark 9:23 NKJV).

Too often, this spiritual gift is overlooked as Christians seek to have another gift of their choosing. It’s not your choice. And what foolish creatures we are, as this gift is the one that towers above them all. If one has a great faith, one can accomplish anything for God.

You’d be surprised what God can do in your life, if only you’d let Him. “And I pray that he would unveil within you the unlimited riches of his glory and favor until supernatural strength floods your innermost being with his divine might and explosive power. Then, by constantly using your faith, the life of Christ will be released deep inside you…” (Ephesians 3:16-17 TPT).

Oh child, God has poured into each of us enough faith that if we would only believe, then all things would be possible. But when the Holy Spirit puts faith into a man or a woman as a supernatural spiritual gift, even the angels watch for what is about to happen.

If you can explain everything that happens in your life, then you are missing out on the supernatural from God. “Even Simon himself believed; and after being baptized, he continued on with Philip, and as he observed signs and great miracles taking place, he was constantly amazed” (Acts 8:13 NASB).

When we are given a spiritual gift, it’s up to us to walk in it. The gift is there, but the gift must be received and then worked out so that it will accomplish all that God has intended. God has a gift for you, and it’s up to you to receive it.

It doesn’t matter how big your calling is, but only that you do it. “As each one has received some spiritual gift, he should use it to serve others, like good managers of God’s many-sided grace” (1 Peter 4:10 CJB).

Some spiritual gifts are given from time to time when they are needed. If God allows you to have a supernatural faith for a time, then you can be sure it is going to be much needed. Often, we would not ask for the gift because of the suffering that goes with it.

The Lord is more interested in changing the man than his circumstances. “After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace [who imparts His blessing and favor], who called you to His own eternal glory in Christ, will Himself complete, confirm, strengthen, and establish you [making you what you ought to be]” (1 Peter 5:10 AMP).

The only way a spiritual gift can be fully received is if the person receiving it is using it to help others around them and then giving God all the glory for what He is doing. If you hoard the gift, then the gift will dissipate. If you try to take the glory, then the gift will depart.

The best gifts cannot be bought but only received. “Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow” (James 1:17 NLT).

It takes the greatest level of humility to receive the highest level of faith, for such a faith will accomplish much in the world, and it will rarely do anything for the one who has it. A great faith can only be held in the hands of a broken soul with a humble heart.

When God lifts you up, it’s not lifting you above others, but lifting you up nearer to Himself, and it will only be in humility that you can stay there. “Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up” (James 4:10 NKJV).

Blessings to you always,

Paul Balius

  1. Thank you my Brother, Paul. Once again, through God’s design, you have hit the mark. May God bless you today and everyday to come.

  2. Faith and favor function and are fueled and fortified by no less than love (Galatians 5:6). It takes God Who Is Love (1 John 4:8,16) to love God. The One Beautiful Triune God is the sole Source and the splendorous, supernal Supply of love, the exact expression, the marvelous manifestation, and the darling demonstration of love, the Holy Trinity of loving, living Infinity, Who can never forget, fail, nor forsake His love-sought, blood-bought, heaven-wrought beloveds to whom He is forever married.

    Isaiah 54:5 AMP
For your Maker is your Husband—the Lord of hosts is His name—and the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer; the God of the whole earth He is called.

As such, our responsible receptivity of and rich responsiveness to Love Almighty, with all our being, ever and always, is royally imperative, of utmost, first importance. This most vital union and intimate love communion falls forth into and for all eternity.

Creation is the conduit of Christ, the Creator, His Spirit of love, the Conductor. Created in the image of our Creator, Who Is Himself the life of love, the essence, the excellence, and the eternality of love, our creature capacity, chief calling, and purposed passion is to lovingly co-create in comportment and conformity to our Creator.

The closer we conscientiously cultivate our communion with Christ, the more Himself Who Is Love overflows from within our being, for more people’s precious conformity to the character of Christ, as citizens in the celestial City, for the claim and fame of His Name everlasting above every name.

Truly loving God for even a millisecond, His merciful, tenderly loving-kindness and faultless, fervent, forever flourishing faithfulness enables and ennobles me to love Him the more. Three Person God of all grace and all glory, we pray, perfect in us, as the Author and Finisher of our faith, the ever increasingly experiential heart knowledge of believing Your love for us, thus being fortified with faith to drink more deeply of the River of Your perfecting pleasure for Your perfect pleasure.

    Ephesians 3:16-21 AMP
16 May He grant you out of the riches of His glory, to be strengthened and spiritually energized with power through His Spirit in your inner self, [indwelling your innermost being and personality],
17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through your faith. And may you, having been [deeply] rooted and [securely] grounded in love,
    18 be fully capable of comprehending with all the saints (God’s people) the width and length and height and depth of His love [fully experiencing that amazing, endless love];
19 and [that you may come] to know [practically, through personal experience] the love of Christ which far surpasses [mere] knowledge [without experience], that you may be filled up [throughout your being] to all the fullness of God [so that you may have the richest experience of God’s presence in your lives, completely filled and flooded with God Himself].
20 Now to Him who is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly more than all that we dare ask or think [infinitely beyond our greatest prayers, hopes, or dreams], according to His power that is at work within us,
21 to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations forever and ever. Amen.

    1 John 4:10-12 AMP
10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation [that is, the atoning sacrifice, and the satisfying offering] for our sins [fulfilling God’s requirement for justice against sin and placating His wrath].
11 Beloved, if God so loved us [in this incredible way], we also ought to love one another.
12 No one has seen God at any time. But if we love one another [with unselfish concern], God abides in us, and His love [the love that is His essence abides in us and] is completed and perfected in us.

    1 Corinthians 13:1-13 AMP
    The Excellence of Love
1 If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love [for others growing out of God’s love for me], then I have become only a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal [just an annoying distraction].
2 And if I have the gift of prophecy [and speak a new message from God to the people], and understand all mysteries, and [possess] all knowledge; and if I have all [sufficient] faith so that I can remove mountains, but do not have love [reaching out to others], I am nothing.
3 If I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body] to be burned, but do not have love, it does me no good at all.
4 Love endures with patience and serenity, love is kind and thoughtful, and is not jealous or envious; love does not brag and is not proud or arrogant.
5 It is not rude; it is not self-seeking, it is not provoked [nor overly sensitive and easily angered]; it does not take into account a wrong endured.
6 It does not rejoice at injustice, but rejoices with the truth [when right and truth prevail].
7 Love bears all things [regardless of what comes], believes all things [looking for the best in each one], hopes all things [remaining steadfast during difficult times], endures all things [without weakening].
8 Love never fails [it never fades nor ends]. But as for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for the gift of special knowledge, it will pass away.
9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part [for our knowledge is fragmentary and incomplete].
10 But when that which is complete and perfect comes, that which is incomplete and partial will pass away.
11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became a man, I did away with childish things.
12 For now [in this time of imperfection] we see in a mirror dimly [a blurred reflection, a riddle, an enigma], but then [when the time of perfection comes we will see reality] face to face. Now I know in part [just in fragments], but then I will know fully, just as I have been fully known [by God].
13 And now there remain: faith [abiding trust in God and His promises], hope [confident expectation of eternal salvation], love [unselfish love for others growing out of God’s love for me], these three [the choicest graces]; but the greatest of these is love.

    1. I’m always amazed with ho much more there is to learn with our God who is higher than we can even imagine! Praying that you will continue desiring to learn more and willing to let the Holy Spirit help you by opening your spiritual eyes and ears to the truths of heaven!
