Taught by the Holy Spirit

There are some things that only the Holy Spirit can teach you. “These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches…” (1 Corinthians 2:13 NKJV).

The Lord Jesus promised us that He would send the Holy Spirit to be with us forever. He told us that the Holy Spirit would teach us all things. Child of God, if you want to know the deep things of heaven it will only come by the Holy Spirit.

If you don’t know the Holy Spirit, then you don’t know Jesus Christ, for it’s the Holy Spirit that can reveal Him to you. Jesus taught, “But I will send you the Comforter—the Holy Spirit, the source of all truth. He will come to you from the Father and will tell you all about me” (John 15:26 TLB).

Most of us prefer to learn on our own rather than to be taught by someone else. It is our pride that controls our thoughts and makes us believe we can do things on our own. We become comfortable living in the deceptions constructed by our mind.

So long as you’re thinking in the natural, the supernatural will never make sense to you. “We don’t speak about these things using teachings that are based on intellectual arguments like people do. Instead, we use the Spirit’s teachings. We explain spiritual things to those who have the Spirit. A person who isn’t spiritual doesn’t accept the teachings of God’s Spirit. He thinks they’re nonsense. He can’t understand them because a person must be spiritual to evaluate them” (1 Corinthians 2:13-14 GW).

Sometimes we will be willing to be taught by others and will listen to them or read the things they have written. But our greatest danger is that we tend to search out those teachers that will make us comfortable just as we are. Beware the thoughts you have which make you think the admonitions in Scripture are meant for others and somehow not for yourself.

Until you can discern a fact from an opinion, your truth will always be changing. “For the time will come when people will not tolerate sound doctrine and accurate instruction [that challenges them with God’s truth]; but wanting to have their ears tickled [with something pleasing], they will accumulate for themselves [many] teachers [one after another, chosen] to satisfy their own desires and to support the errors they hold, and will turn their ears away from the truth and will wander off into myths and man-made fictions [and will accept the unacceptable]” (2 Timothy 4:3-4 AMP).

What we really need is a teacher that will punch us in the gut and box our ears and then challenge us to be something more than we ever thought possible. We need to be properly schooled through the painful adversity of seeing ourselves as we really are.

Adversity is a harsh teacher that gives a cruel lesson that you might be a better student in the end. “And though the Lord gives you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction…Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it…'” (Isaiah 30:20-21 NKJV).

We can have the Holy Spirit as our teacher because Jesus promised us that we could. His promises are sure, and it is up to us to take hold of them. To be taught by the Holy Spirit you must first receive the Holy Spirit. You need the Teacher before you gain the teaching.

If you want to be inspired by God, you must put down the materials of man. Jesus promised, “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and remind you of all that I said to you” (John 14:26 NASB).

Most of us have not been taught by the Holy Spirit because we never welcomed Him into our lives where He could do so. We live our lives carried away in the currents of natural understanding never thinking to ourselves that the Holy Spirit can help us.

Never be surprised to not get the help you never asked for. “…ye have not, because ye ask not” (James 4:2 KJV).

Ask the Holy Spirit to teach you what you cannot learn on your own. Be willing to admit just how barren your spiritual understanding really is. Believe that the Holy Spirit can place within you a divine understanding you can get in no other way.

You can’t understand spiritual truth without spiritual understanding. We “do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding” (Colossians 1:9 NKJV).

The Holy Spirit can teach you to see the depths of the Word of God beyond the literal meaning and into the spiritual understanding that you can know in no other way. You can learn divine truth, but never expect that the natural person can understand even if you try and tell them.

It is by the commentary of the Holy Spirit that we can understand the Word of God. “These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches…” (1 Corinthians 2:13 NKJV).

If you want to grow in spiritual wisdom, you must be taught by the Holy Spirit. The wisdom from heaven seems foolish to the natural man but will be treasured by the child of God who can understand them by the help of the Holy Spirit. Heaven is better than earth.

You will not walk in your anointing until you first sit in His presence. “But you have an anointing from the Holy One [you have been set apart, specially gifted and prepared by the Holy Spirit], and all of you know [the truth because He teaches us, illuminates our minds, and guards us from error]” (1 John 2:20 AMP).

The next time you want to learn more about anything about the things of God, ask the Holy Spirit to be your Teacher. You will be shocked at what revelations He will give to you, the greatest one being that He Himself is your Teacher.

God’s mysteries can only be understood through divine revelations. “Call to me, and I will answer you. I will tell you great and mysterious things that you do not know” (Jeremiah 33:3 GW).

Child of God, you were meant for something more.

Blessings to you always,

Paul Balius

      1. Hello, I do only post a blog once, a different one each week. Maybe it redisplayed for you from when I commented to people about the blog? Let me know where you are seeing it multiple times. I agree with you, God will give the increase. I rarely get a like or a comment, so the increase is not much, but it is what God has for me.

  2. Thank you Paul. Another Spirit filled devotional to start the day with the proper perspective. God is good, ALL the time!

    1. I have been in a season of seeking a greater anointing in the Holy Spirit. When we ask God for more of His Spirit within us, we can be sure it is exactly and perfectly in His will to bring that about. I just keep asking for more!
