Inspired by the Holy Spirit

The more you’re inspired by God, the more you’ll inspire others to do the same. “God speaks in different ways, and we don’t always recognize his voice” (Job 33:14 CEV).

The Holy Spirit can do many things for you in your life. He can teach and guide on everything you should say or do. He can help you with circumstances and give you wisdom and discernment for difficult choices you might face.

Don’t only wait to be inspired, pray to be inspired. Paul asked believers, “pray for me, too. Ask God to give me the right words so I can boldly explain God’s mysterious plan…” (Ephesians 6:19 NLT).

One of the most wonderful gifts of the Holy Spirit is to be inspired by Him. We can be inspired by other people or by a book or a movie, but when you’re inspired by the Spirit of God, the inspiration is supernatural.

If you want to be inspired by God you must put down the materials of man. Jesus promised, “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and remind you of all that I said to you” (John 14:26 NASB).

Too many Christians in our day have such a narrow view of all that the Holy Spirit can do in the life of believer who is given over to the Spirit of God. They focus on their carnal desire for one or two spiritual gifts, and don’t seek out to have the Holy Spirit Himself.

The prerequisite to being led by the Spirit is your willingness to follow Him. “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God” (Romans 8:14 NKJV ).

It’s not a matter of you taking hold of the Holy Spirit, but in surrendering to Him that He would take hold of you. And once He has you securely in His grip, He can begin to inspire you with all that you were meant to become and for all you are to do for the glory of God.

Clever thinking hinders divine inspiration. “For it will not be just you speaking, but the Spirit of your heavenly Father speaking through you” (Matthew 10:20 CJB).

The inspirations from the Holy Spirit are not only meant for you alone, but to go through you onto all those He has ordained for your life to touch. Inspiration is not for your entertainment but for His purposes to be worked out through you.

Spiritual gifts are not for you, but to be through you. “Even so you, since you are zealous for spiritual gifts, let it be for the edification of the church that you seek to excel” (1 Corinthians 14:12 NKJV).

If you want to be inspired by the Holy Spirit, you must first surrender to the Holy Spirit that He can have free reign within you to pour in all the inspirations. The more surrendered you are the more freely the river can flow.

You cannot be led by the Holy Spirit while walking in your flesh. “But I say, walk and live [habitually] in the [Holy] Spirit [responsive to and controlled and guided by the Spirit]; then you will certainly not gratify the cravings and desires of the flesh (of human nature without God)” (Galatians 5:16 AMPC).

The more you try to be inspired the less He will inspire you. Inspiration never comes by striving but by receiving without any effort from you. It is a humbling truth once we discover God needs very little from our own natural abilities in order to serve Him.

You can either be inspired, or it will be from you. “Then, after doing all those things, I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your old men will dream dreams, and your young men will see visions. In those days I will pour out my Spirit even on servants—men and women alike” (Joel 2:28-29 NLT).

The inspirations of the Spirit of God may be on what to say, what to do, or how He would have you serve Him. Beware of putting the Holy Spirit into a box of your own commonsense reasonableness, for the supernatural cannot be contained by your natural.

Just as God gave you natural abilities, He can also give you supernatural ones. “There are varieties of effects, but the same God who works all things in all persons. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.

  1. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit,
  2. and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit;
  3. to another faith by the same Spirit,
  4. and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit,
  5. and to another the effecting of miracles,
  6. and to another prophecy,
  7. and to another the distinguishing of spirits,
  8. to another various kinds of tongues,
  9. and to another the interpretation of tongues”

(1 Corinthians 12:6-10 NASB).

When the Holy Spirit inspires you, don’t let man divert you, for the inspiration is not up for debate by the councils of men on this earth. Ask the Lord for wisdom and then let Him give you the discernment on the right thing you should do.

You cannot be led by the Spirit holding onto the expectations of man. “…I did not immediately confer with flesh and blood” (Galatians 1:16 NKJV).

Stop thinking the inspirations of the Holy Spirit are only for a few select saints in the kingdom. You were meant to be inspired and now it is up to you if you will dare to let the Holy Spirit reign in you. You will either surrender to Him, or you will not. Make a decision to do it today and then never turn back.

Inspiration trumps effort in the kingdom. “And there are [distinctive] ways of working [to accomplish things], but it is the same God who produces all things in all believers [inspiring, energizing, and empowering them]” (1 Corinthians 12:6 AMP).

Blessings to you always,

  1. As is consistently Christ-characteristic of your writings, Paul, so is this marvelous message through you, splendidly inspired by the blessedly wondrous, eternal Spirit of holiness, grace, and truth Himself.

I thank our dear holy Father in heaven and rejoice that I am among the recipients of your receptivity and responsiveness to the pricelessly precious, inimitable, inexhaustible, living riches of the Holy Spirit, Who Is so intimately involved in our lives as our happifying Helper, our trustworthy Teacher, our coordinating Counselor, our caring Comforter, our ardent Advocate, our intense Intercessor, our sole Strengthener, our sure Standby, and, indeed, is no less than the ever sufficient Supply of the Spirit of all that Jesus Christ faithfully is for ministry to us and in the outflow and overflow through us for others’ edification, exhortation, progress and joy and the endless glory of the One Beautiful Triune God.

  2. Thank you. In these difficult times we all need to totally surrender to the Holy Spirit. Only He has the way through God’s way.

    1. You are so right, and we are in such need, if we would only surrender all. The Holy Spirit is available to us all, but only known to the few who dare allow Him to reign in their lives.
