Don’t Be Discouraged

We all have things in our lives that can cause us to be discouraged. We can start to question whether we are even on the right path and wonder if God would even have us keep trying. Even when we are called to something, we can often question if it is still His will for us to do it.

Don’t forfeit a thing just so you can lose on your own terms. “But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded” (2 Chronicles 15:7 NIV).

Sometimes, we think that every closed door is a sign from God that we should go in a different direction. But we are wrong to think this way, for it is in the obstacles before us that our trust in Him can be proven. Don’t think that your “Red Sea” is there so that you would not cross through it.

God did not remove the obstacle of the Red Sea, but gave them a way through it. “Are You not the One who dried up the sea, the waters of the great deep; that made the depths of the sea a road for the redeemed to cross over?” (Isaiah 51:10 NKJV).

Early in our faith, we imagined He would make our paths easier. But for all of us, that was never His intention. We would never grow in our faith if we didn’t have to climb some mountains. Wherever you are on your journey, know that you are not alone in the struggle.

Whatever you’re going through, you’re not alone. “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.” (Isaiah 41:10 NLT).

No matter how far you go in your faith, it will always be tested. The higher your faith, the greater the test. Being discouraged along the way is not failing the test, but only remaining discouraged is. However you feel discouraged, it is a sign that you should trust more in God.

Don’t be discouraged by where you’re at, but be encouraged by where God is taking you. “This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9 NLT).

If you really believed that the Lord could do anything, then there wouldn’t remain any discouragement in you since you know He can solve any problem you have. You need to do two things: give it to the Lord and then leave it with Him.

Until you give it to God, you’ll carry it yourself. “Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you” (1 Peter 5:6-7 NLT).

Don’t be discouraged about the things God is using to grow your faith. He can’t take you up higher on the mountain until you first climb up the hills below. Let the obstacles before you be the fire beneath your prayers and the fuel to be persistent.

Don’t be discouraged by a bad day, but only grow from it. “After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace [who imparts His blessing and favor], who called you to His own eternal glory in Christ, will Himself complete, confirm, strengthen, and establish you [making you what you ought to be]” (1 Peter 5:10 AMP).

Don’t be discouraged, as if God couldn’t help you. Consider every challenge along the way He put there to see how much you would trust Him and turn to Him for help. You cannot put all your trust in Him and be discouraged at the same time.

In whatever you are going through, He has you. “Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you” (Deuteronomy 31:8 NLT).

Don’t be discouraged that things did not turn out as you had hoped for. Every day of our life was written in the Lord’s book before our life ever started. God knows how your story ends, and you can trust Him in every chapter along the way.

We don’t have to fear what might happen because God already knows. “Your eyes have seen my formless substance; and in Your book were written all the days that were ordained for me, when as yet there was not one of them” (Psalm 139:16 NASB).

Don’t be discouraged about everything and everyone who comes against you. When God is on your side, it is the other side that you need to pray for. Don’t question His ability to save you, but ask yourself in what area you need to trust Him even more.

Do not focus on the people who come against you, but the God who goes before you. “For you shall not go out with haste, nor go by flight; for the Lord will go before you, and the God of Israel will be your rear guard” (Isaiah 52:12 NKJV).

Don’t be discouraged, oh timid soul, for God most certainly has you. There will never be a fraction of a second in which God will let go of you or turn the other way. Look to Him and know that He is already looking at you. Trust the One who is always trustworthy.

In whatever you are facing, trust that God will help you through it. “The Lord also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. And those who know Your name will put their trust in You; for You, Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You” (Psalm 9:9-10 NKJV ).

Blessings to you, and may He deliver you from any discouragement you have today,

Paul Balius

though the sea has yet to part
take the few fishes and the little bread
    for such is sufficient
for the multitudes to be fed.

Blessings to you and may the bread you share encourage others
