Waiting on God

In your life, you will most surely have to wait on God. There will be something that, in your mind, requires immediate answers from God, and often, it will be there that He will leave you waiting. You can be sure of this truth: with God, there is always a purpose in the waiting.

To be led by God, you must wait for God. “The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him. It is good that one should hope and wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord” (Lamentations 3:25-26 NKJV).

We have a choice when we wait on God, to either do so willingly and patiently, or to be kicking and screaming at Him to answer us. The more that we trust in the Lord, the more patient we will be in our waiting. Patience is the gauge of our faith.

Waiting patiently is the work required to increase one’s faith. “So Abraham received what God promised because he waited patiently for it” (Hebrews 6:15 NOG).

Sometimes, when we have to wait for God, we think He has decided not to help us at all. But just because God has not answered a request yet does not mean He won’t answer us at some point. The Lord uses the waiting period as the training period to help us grow our faith.

It takes more strength to wait than to move. “Do not say, ‘I will repay evil’; wait [expectantly] for the Lord, and He will rescue and save you” (Proverbs 20:22 AMP).

God’s clock always has the perfect time. He is never early, and He is never late. He does not operate on our schedule, so we would be most blessed to trust in His. The more intimate you are with the Lord, the more attuned you will be to His timing.

If you wait for God’s timing, you’ll be on time. “Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act. Don’t worry about evil people who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes” (Psalm 37:7 NLT).

God will make you wait to teach you to wait. In the waiting, God isn’t testing you to see if you will fail but to teach you how to trust Him. We wouldn’t have more faith if He worked on our timetable, because it takes the stretching of our faith to make it stronger.

Sometimes, God makes us wait to see if we will. “Therefore the Lord waits to be gracious to you, and therefore he exalts himself to show mercy to you. For the Lord is a God of justice; blessed are all those who wait for him” (Isaiah 30:18 ESV).

Waiting on God is often the greatest test of our faith because we start to question His character. We cannot understand how a loving God can sit idly by as we suffer. It seems to us as though He must not care all that much about us. Don’t you know the Lord suffers with you?

Consider that the Lord won’t show up if you don’t wait for Him. “I waited and waited and waited some more, patiently, knowing God would come through for me. Then, at last, he bent down and listened to my cry” (Psalm 40:1 TPT).

Waiting on God tests our faith in what God is able to do. We think our prayer must just be too high, and so His waiting is nothing more than a forfeit because He is unable to help you. Yet it will be in your waiting that God will teach you that nothing is impossible for Him.

Pray confidently, knowing God can do anything. “As for me, I look to the Lord for help. I wait confidently for God to save me, and my God will certainly hear me” (Micah 7:7 NLT).

We think that waiting on God is time wasted and relief delayed. We grow more distant from Him in our frustration and more critical of Him with His inaction. Yet waiting on God is the best investment you can ever have in getting closer to Him in your time of need.

God is never late. Waiting is trusting in action. Resting in Him exercises your faith. Patience is an inward trust in His perfect timing. “Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord!” (Psalm 27:14 NKJV).

Learn to relish the waiting, knowing all that it can do in you. The more you love Him, the longer you are willing to wait. Waiting is trusting, and trusting is knowing that He will always act in His perfect will, and you need never question His timing or His decision.

If you don’t wait for the leading of the Lord, who knows where you’ll end up? “From of old no one has heard or perceived by the ear, no eye has seen a God besides you, who acts for those who wait for him” (Isaiah 64:4 ESV).

Be willing to wait on God for that one thing you are praying for the most right now. Tell Jesus you trust Him with His timing. Tell the Father you trust that He can do anything. Tell the Holy Spirit to comfort you as you wait for the Lord Himself to help you.

Trust God with the problem He has not yet solved. “Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and our shield. For our heart shall rejoice in Him, because we have trusted in His holy name” (Psalm 33:20-21 NKJV).

Blessings to you,

  1. I know that God makes me wait until I am ready. His timing is always good. He made me wait 52 years before He put GJ back into my life. Never give up! God’s timing is always perfect. I know without a doubt that we would never have lasted, if we had not “grown up” and learned to “Let go and Let God. He was getting both of us ready. Nothing is impossible with God.

    1. What a wonderful testimony of having the Lord make you wait and that you saw His sovereign hand work in your life! This is such an important message for people to see that they can have hope for everything they are waiting for.
