There are times when the Lord will decide to do something that is supernaturally spectacular in your life. You will have a “burning bush” moment that you will never forget. For some Christians, that moment has not yet come, and for others, it can seem like only a distant memory.
Don’t ever give up because you have no idea of all that the Lord is doing to help you. “Then Elisha prayed, ‘O Lord, open his eyes and let him see!’ The Lord opened the young man’s eyes, and when he looked up, he saw that the hillside around Elisha was filled with horses and chariots of fire” (2 Kings 6:17 NLT).
Too often, we Christians don’t think that the Lord will do anything spectacular in our lives, so we are not surprised when He doesn’t. We may even become part of the cessasionists, that group of Christians who deny God’s power in our time simply because they do not have it in their own life.
Cessationism [the teaching that spiritual gifts are no longer] is the Devil’s doctrine meant to castrate the Church that the sons of God would not be born in this generation. If the Devil cannot win by darkness, all he needs do is remove the fire, and then the light will dim. “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God” (Romans 8:14 NKJV).
The other error we fall into is in missing all the acts of God simply because they don’t measure up to our expectations of what He should do. We dictate to God what constitutes a miracle or a supernatural gift and then discount anything that He does that doesn’t rise to the watermark of our making.
The greatest fires need to start with but a single spark. In the same way, step into your calling. To write a book, start with a sentence. To begin a ministry, start ministering. To speak to crowds, speak to individuals. That “…God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfill all the good pleasure of His goodness and the work of faith with power, that the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and you in Him…” (2 Thessalonians 1:11-12 NKJV).
If you don’t believe, then He will rarely act because your lack of faith is in the way. It’s not that He cannot do miracles apart from your faith, but He chooses not to flow through the closed mind of an unbelieving Christian. You might believe in God, but do you believe what God can do?
What impossible thing do you need to believe that it might happen? “Jesus said to him, ‘If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes’” (Mark 9:23 NKJV).
The reality in the life of a believer who walks in the divine and hears the voice of the Holy Spirit is that they do so in the mundane details of their life. They don’t limit the supernatural from God to be only limited to the spectacular moments, but they see God in everything and all the time.
The faith of a Christian is not revealed in the midst of a miracle but in the midst of the mundane. “Also, make it your ambition to live quietly, to mind your own business and to earn your living by your own efforts — just as we told you” (1 Thessalonians 4:11 CJB).
Before every burning bush is a spark that starts the flame. It is the spark we must look for and the spark we must receive before the flames will ignite within us. To experience the divine requires that we believe in the divine and all that God is doing around us.
Your faith is not measured by your spiritual high during worship but by all the moments in between. Do not just get filled with the Holy Spirit but get up and walk in it. “And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men…for you serve the Lord Christ” (Colossians 3:23-24 NKJV).
If you want to live a life inspired by God, then you must become inspirable. You must stop waiting for the sea to part before you and see the wonder that can be found by the touch of a drop of water. We serve a sovereign God who controls both the mighty oceans and the single raindrop.
In whatever situation you’re in, know that God is sovereign. “The Lord does whatever he wants in heaven or on earth, on the seas or in all the depths of the oceans.” (Psalm 135:6 GW).
When I pray to be inspired by God on what He would have me write, I don’t pray for all the words to fall at once but that He would give me even one. In just one word, there is a spark that can start a flame. All we must do is to be willing kindling, sitting patiently for the Lord to ignite us.
The more you’re inspired by God, the more you’ll inspire others to do the same. “God speaks in different ways, and we don’t always recognize his voice” (Job 33:14 CEV).
More often than not, I must wait patiently for the Lord to even give me a single word. The inspirations of God are never in a hurry but are always watching carefully for the faith in the person they are meant for. Patience gets you further than effort in the kingdom of God.
If you want to be inspired by God, then you must wait for Him. “Lead me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation; on You I wait all the day” (Psalm 25:5 NKJV).
Ask for the sparks and pray for the eyes that you might see them. Start with the sparks, and you will have far more flames. Let the flames grow, and your life will be a light to those around you. Burn brightly for the Lord, and you will be a blessing to the kingdom.
Where there is fire, there is light. John the Baptist said of Jesus, “…He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire” (Matthew 3:11 NKJV).
