Who You Are

The world will define us based on how we look or the popularity we have. Our value will depend on the power we wield or the things we have. The world will use a million ways to have you strive after those things that the world says will make you significant. But the world’s significance is nothing to God.

Your past does not define you – God does. “So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them” (Genesis 1:27 NKJV).

God’s view is entirely different. He loves you because of who He is. His definition of you is that you were made in His own image. His value for you has nothing to do with what you own but what He gave up, His own Son to shed His blood to save you.

The foundation of our faith is not in how we feel towards God but how God feels towards us. Jesus taught us, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16 NKJV).

Who you are is a child of God. You are His adopted child and will share in the inheritance of His own Son Jesus. You are in God’s family. You are forever loved unconditionally. You will live forever with the Father, and He will take away every pain and sorrow that fills your heart today.

You need to step over that line from who you were to who God has destined you to become. “God chose us in Christ to be holy and blameless in God’s presence before the creation of the world. God destined us to be his adopted children through Jesus Christ because of his love” (Ephesians 1:4-5 CEV).

Who you are is a uniquely crafted workmanship of God. He has made you for a purpose, and He has designed you for a plan. He knew you from before time began, and He has your destiny mapped out in His mind. Nothing can stop what God has planned for you.

Never underestimate what an extraordinary God can do through an ordinary person. “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10 NKJV).

Who you are is a soldier in God’s army. You are a warrior in His heavenly army as you fight in the spiritual battles laid out on the battlefield of prayer and won in the heavenlies through the power of God. As you call on God for help, even His angelic armies are listening.

You cannot have the victory without the battle. Never set your goals based on the difficulties you may face but the promises you will walk in. “You must not fear them, for the Lord your God Himself fights for you” (Deuteronomy 3:22 NKJV).

Who you are is supposed to be a comforter to those hurting around you. God will pour out His love into you that it would then flow through you onto those too tired or too afraid to reach into the heavenlies on their own. You are to be the encourager that lifts hearts up to heaven where God can help them.

Consider that He has broken your heart, that He then might flow through it onto others. He is the “…God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God” (2 Corinthians 1:3-4 NKJV).

Who you are is a saint designed to show mercy and grace to those around you. He has forgiven you so that you can forgive others. His mercy to you is so abundant that there is plenty to spill onto people in your life. He has given you grace so that you can give grace.

Do unto others as the Lord has done unto you. “Therefore be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful” (Luke 6:36 NKJV).

Who you are is a custom-made, beautiful child of God, precious in His eyes and forever meant to reflect His glory to the world around you. He has filled you with the true beauty of a gentle spirit and a loving heart. When it comes to the beauty from heaven, it will never fade.

Worldly beauty is measured from the outside going in. Heavenly beauty is measured from the inside going out. “Don’t be concerned about the outward beauty that depends on jewelry, or beautiful clothes, or hair arrangement. Be beautiful inside, in your hearts, with the lasting charm of a gentle and quiet spirit that is so precious to God” (1 Peter 3:3-4 TLB).

Who you are is a new creation, washed clean from your past and made new for what the Lord has for you. Where you have been is who you were and not who you are now. When you put your old life behind you, then it has no place before you.

God created you, be sure that He can change you. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJV).

Who you are is who God says you are, which is His son or daughter. He has adopted you forever, and He has saved you to be His very own. God wants you to know who you are so you can be all you were meant to be. Knowing who you are will be what will make you what you are.

There is no such thing as an illegitimate child in the family of God. “The Lord Almighty says, ‘I will be your Father, and you will be my sons and daughters’” (2 Corinthians 6:18 NOG).

Blessings to you,

Paul Balius
