I can tell a soul who communes with the Lord, as they no longer need the approval of man. “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen” (2 Corinthians 13:14 NKJV).
We were meant to be with God. We were meant to be filled with God. We can never be complete without Him, and we will never be satisfied apart from Him. Our life is a fraction that can only be made whole when we are in communion with God in all that we do.
It is one thing to be saved by God, and another to be filled of God. The one gets you into heaven, and the other gets heaven into you. “…that you may be filled with all the fullness of God” (Ephesians 3:19 NKJV).
Jesus asked the Father to send the Holy Spirit that we would be in communion with Him forever. Some of us are still waiting to be filled of the Spirit of God. Others have His presence but are not yet yielding to all He would have us do. The blessed few are those who commune with the Spirit and are guided by Him in what they do and how they pray.
The Holy Spirit will lead us, but it is up to us to follow Him. “For all who are allowing themselves to be led by the Spirit of God are sons of God” (Romans 8:14 AMP).
You cannot hold onto your darkness and approach the light. You will either stay away to keep your darkness or have your darkness consumed by the fire of His glory. The more darkness you bring with you, the less you will have to hold onto.
You cannot carry a handful of darkness and walk in the light. “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light” (Ephesians 5:8 NKJV).
When Jesus said that He would be in us, it was the Spirit of Christ that He was speaking. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Christ and the Spirit of the Father, poured out that we might be in communion with God. When you yield to the Holy Spirit, you are giving yourself over to a mighty God.
It is not enough to have Christ in your Christian title; you need Christ in your life. “…Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness” (Romans 8:9-10 NKJV).
When we backslide from our faith, we give up those things that God has given us. When we resist the leading of the Holy Spirit, then we will go our own way. When we choose our will over His, the results are never blessed by the abiding presence of God in what we’re doing.
If we are not led by the Spirit, we are headed for trouble. “For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live” (Romans 8:13 NKJV).
When you’re communing with the Holy Spirit, you’re operating in the will of God. When you’re filled by the Holy Spirit, you’re filled with God. The fullness of God can never be contained, and the proof is what pours out onto those around you.
When we are filled with the Holy Spirit, we are filled with the purposes of God. “God is the one who enables you both to want and to actually live out His good purposes” (Philippians 2:13 CEV).
When you’re in holy communion with the Holy Spirit, your life will be a blessing to those around you. It is not the gifted that God is looking for but the humble and the weak through whom He can reach a dark and dying world. Be the one who dares to be filled with an uncontainable God.
You know you are praying in the Spirit when even the building can’t sit still. “And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness” (Acts 4:31 NKJV).
We find what we seek. We seek what we desire. We desire what we are consumed by. If your flesh rules you, then your flesh will be your ruin. If God’s Spirit rules you, then God’s Spirit will be your victory. It’s never too late until it is. It’s never beyond you but within you.
You can’t be filled with the Spirit of God and continue as you were before. “For the mind-set of the flesh is death, but the mind-set controlled by the Spirit finds life and peace” (Romans 8:6 TPT).
We will never stop praying for those things we must have. If you must have the Holy Spirit, then be sure that God will do it. You were meant to live in the presence of God by being filled with God. Pray for a greater filling. Pray for a deeper presence. Never stop praying and God will never stop answering.
If you don’t pray for it, don’t be surprised when you don’t get it. Jesus taught, “For everyone who keeps asking receives; he who keeps seeking finds; and to him who keeps knocking, the door will be opened” (Matthew 7:8 CJB).
Blessings to you,
Paul Balius
This past year I published a book entitled, “The Promise of the Holy Spirit.” This book was born out of my passion to encourage others in all they can receive through the promises of God. You were meant for so much more, and my prayer is that you would walk in it. Check out the book by searching for my name on Amazon, and if you cannot afford a book let me know and I will help those where I can.
