When Jesus came to this earth, most would not believe in Him. When the Holy Spirit came to this earth it was no different. Even to this day, only some believe in the Holy Spirit, and just a few have faith in all that He can do. Have faith in the Holy Spirit.
Jesus taught us that the Holy Spirit would come to help us, teach us, guide us, and tell us things to come. Jesus promised us, “…the Helper, the Holy Spirit…He will teach you all things…” (John 14:26). Jesus also promised us, “…when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth… and He will tell you things to come” (John 16:13).
Several years ago, I wrote a friend these words, “I don’t know all the theology around things, but I know the Lord who is over all things. When I read His Word, I simply believe. I am not smart enough to argue myself into a faith that has no power, so I just walk in the power of the Holy Spirit.”
Have faith in what the Holy Spirit can do for you. “…that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith” (Galatians 3:14).
You must have faith that the Holy Spirit will talk to you before you will be able to hear Him. “One day as they were worshiping God—they were also fasting as they waited for guidance—the Holy Spirit spoke…” (Acts 13:2 The Message).
Several years ago, there was this one Sunday that I was sitting in the back of a large prison chapel that held around 300 men. There was one section in the back where the inmates only came to talk with each other. There was one man in this group whom the Holy Spirit pressed on me to give him a word. All that I heard was I was supposed to tell him, “God loves you.” I was hesitant to give the word, as until this time I had only given a word when ministering to others.
This man got up and walked past me, and as he did, I felt the pressing of the Lord to give him the word. We must have faith in the Holy Spirit, that He can speak to us and give us the exact word that a person needs to hear. As this man came near me, I told him, “God loves you.” That was it. That was the word.
A prophetic word is light into a darkened world. “And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place…” (2 Peter 1:19).
This man just nodded his head and went back to his seat. When we are obedient to the Lord, He is faithful to take care of the rest. Sometimes we get to see why He leads us as He does, but just do what He tells you regardless. When this man sat down, the Holy Spirit revealed to me that he was going to be saved. That was the first time I was given this precious knowing. I was not sure what to make of it.
Just when you think you know how God will do things, He will choose another way. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts” (Isaiah 55:9).
There are some things that only the Holy Spirit can teach you. “These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches…” (1 Corinthians 2:13).
The following Saturday, I was teaching a small class in that same chapel. That young man I had given the word to showed up for the first time at one of these Saturday classes. At the end of the class I felt led to do an altar call. I asked if anyone was ready to be saved, and nobody came up. I never worry if nobody answers the altar call. We should only worry if we do not ask.
There were several men there who wanted prayer and to be anointed with oil that day. They lined up in the aisle, and I was anointing them and praying for them one by one. Then it was the last man in the line, I looked up, and it was the young man I had given a word to at the service the week before. He was standing there in front of me, and I knew he was going to be saved. I asked him if he was ready to accept the Lord Jesus, and he said yes.
Miracles don’t increase our faith – they reveal our faith. “So Jesus said to them, ‘…if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you’” (Matthew 17:20).
Have faith that the Holy Spirit can speak to you. Have faith that the Holy Spirit can tell you things to come. Have faith in the words that Jesus spoke. Jesus promised us: “…when He, the Spirit of truth, has come… He will tell you things to come” (John 16:13).
There are people on this planet who need you to reach them. They need you to allow the power of heaven to pour through you. Have faith in the Holy Spirit.
Blessings to you,
