Having the Holy Spirit

This is a continuation from “Knowing the Holy Spirit”, but can be read on its own.

I am convinced that in however we fail in our faith, we have not yet surrendered that part of our life to the Holy Spirit. People have told me that you either have the Holy Spirit, or you don’t. That you cannot increase in the degree that the Holy Spirit reigns in you. How horribly wrong they are in their intellectual assessment that leaves a church filled with powerless Christians.

Friend, we need to pray for a greater filling of the Holy Spirit in our lives each and every day. Apart from the Holy Spirit reigning more in our lives, we will remain powerless and only as strong as what the meager levels of our broken flesh can muster up. You were meant for something more than that.

Give your life to Him, and He will give His life to you, and your life will never be the same again.

I prayed for a word to write about the Holy Spirit, and below is the second half of what poured into me and onto paper in just a few minutes. This is word for word what poured through me, and then I added verses to go along with it afterward. The Spirit of God is never contrary to the Word of God.

Try reading without the verses first, just the black words, and that is how it first poured out. Discern for yourself whatever you read, from me or anyone else. Nobody has it all right but God alone.

The Holy Spirit can teach you all things. Jesus promised, “the Holy Spirit…He will teach you all things…” (John 14:26).

The Holy Spirit can put thoughts in your mind. “…the Holy Spirit…[will] bring to your remembrance…” (John 14:26).

The Holy Spirit can give you words to speak. “For the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say” (Luke 12:12).

The Holy Spirit can give you revelations. “for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit” (2 Peter 1:21).

The Holy Spirit can reveal Christ to you. “…no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit” (1 Corinthians 12:3).

The Holy Spirit can reveal the Father to you. “…that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ…may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him” (Ephesians 1:17).

The Holy Spirit can give you power. “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you…” (Acts 1:8).

The Holy Spirit can give you dreams and visions. “And it shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions” (Joel 2:28).

The Holy Spirit can heal others through you. “…to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit” (1 Corinthians 12:9).

The Holy Spirit can give you fruits from a new heart. “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control…” (Galatians 5:22-23).

The Holy Spirit can give you gifts by which you can serve God. “There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit” (1 Corinthians 12:4).

The Holy Spirit can give you a new language in which you can speak to God. “For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries” (1 Corinthians 14:1-2).

The greatest gift of God to you is Himself, in the Holy Spirit. “Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).

Don’t chase anything but God. “But from there you will seek the Lord your God, and you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul” (Deuteronomy 4:29).

Don’t yield to anything but God. “…yield yourselves to the Lord…” (2 Chronicles 30:8).

Don’t desire anything more than God. “Jesus said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind’” (Matthew 22:37).

Let the Holy Spirit be everything to you, and He will be everything in you and through you. “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God” (Romans 8:14).

Your talent cannot gain the Holy Spirit. “…the gift of the Holy Spirit…” (Acts 10:45).

Your intellect and money are worthless to the Holy Spirit. “…your heavenly Father [will] give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him” (Luke 11:13).

You cannot take the Holy Spirit, only receive Him. “…you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit” (Acts 2:38).

Your surrender leads to your victory. “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you” (James 4:7).

Your willingness leads to His manifestation. “But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all” (1 Corinthians 12:7).

Your faith is greater than anything else you have. “For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith” (1 John 5:4).

There is no one other thing on this earth besides the Holy Spirit that can transform you into something new. “But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord” (2 Corinthians 3:18).

Stop trying so hard and just let Him have His way in you.

The Holy Spirit is a match made in heaven for you. Won’t you pray to the Father and to the Son that you would have the Holy Spirit reigning more and more in your life each day?

Blessings to you,

Paul Balius

  1. True and powerful word, and the reason we are without excuse is that His Spirit has been given!

May we go deeper in our dependence upon Him.

    Blessings brother

    1. Thank you brother, how much we need the Spirit of Truth upon us that we would know the truth and be empowered to then walk in it!

      Blessings to you,
      Paul
