Changed by the Holy Spirit

You cannot change yourself. You cannot do what only God can do. It is your flesh that tells you to do the work. It is the Devil that agrees with your flesh. The Devil is a liar and your flesh is no better. The Word does not say to transform yourself, but to “…be transformed…” (Romans 12:2).

If God thought you could do it on your own, then why in the world would He have sent His Son to die for your sins, and then send the Holy Spirit to give you power over your sins? God knows you better than you do. So long as you think you must earn His love or His favor, you are a hindrance to what He can do in you.

I struggled for years to live for God. It was in the struggle that I was in error, as it was my pride trying to do the work that God alone could do in me. Every time I fail, I know that it is because I am relying upon myself. Jesus never fails. When Jesus reigns in you, then He will be your victory.

We need to stop making excuses of why we cannot live a holy life and just let Him live His holy life through us. “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me…” (Galatians 2:20). Won’t you join me, that we would dare to live a life surrendered unto Him? A life changed by the Holy Spirit.

Stop telling God He can’t change you and just let Him.

Just as it takes the power of God to make man, it takes the power of God to change him. “This is the word of the LORD…’Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit’…” (Zechariah 4:6).

Regeneration is not a makeover but a do over. Every program of man will fail, but the Holy Spirit never fails. “…but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit” (Titus 3:5).

Only the God who created all things can create the change in you. “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me” (Psalm 51:10).

To the degree that you control your life, the Lord does not.

Remove the idea that you can make yourself better. Let Him have His way with you. “…Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day” (2 Corinthians 4:16).

People think if they can become obedient, then they will get filled with the Holy Spirit. It is the other way around. When you become filled by the Holy Spirit, then it is by His power alone that you can be obedient.

We need to stop praying that the Lord would change His mind, but that He would change ours. “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…” (Romans 12:2).

To go from glory to glory, you cannot remain as you are. “But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord” (2 Corinthians 3:18).

Glory is always upon glory. You must be on the first level of glory to reach the second. Be obedient where you are now, and you will never remain there. Never doubt that God change you, but will you let Him?

To die to your natural self, you need the Holy Spirit to help you. “For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live” (Romans 8:13).

There are a thousand books of man that try to teach you how to change yourself. They take your money and give you empty words, and leave you wanting more. Why don’t you just read the Word that has the power to change you?

Some of you need deliverance from your stack of books. It is good to study the things of man, but without the Holy Spirit you will never understand the things of God. The Lord Jesus taught, “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things…” (John 14:26).

Hold God to His Word, and His Word will take hold of you. He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it” (1 Thessalonians 5:24).

The Holy Spirit fills you to the degree that you let Him. “Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?” (1 Corinthians 3:16).

The Holy Spirit will lead you when you follow Him. “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God” (Romans 8:14). You are meant to be His son or daughter.

Blessings to you,

Paul

    1. Hello, we are called to live our lives in holiness. But I have found that the secret to doing that is not by our effort but by our surrender. Whenever we are not changed it is because we are standing in the way and not allowing Him to change us. He will not force the change, but when we let Him, He will do the change. It is a daily process, a life journey. But know this, Jesus loves you and He paid the price for all your sin. So when you want to be good, know that it is not for your salvation, but part of His sanctification in you, preparing you to be the believer you were meant to be.
