The Loner

Never feel lonely knowing you are never alone. “…For He Himself has said, ‘I will never leave you…'” (Hebrews 13:5 NKJV).

God has designed each of us into a unique creation to be useful for His kingdom. With how we are, there is often not a right or a wrong, but only that unique and divine beauty mark that separates us from one another. Each of us is so beautiful and precious in the sight of God.

What you see as flaws in yourself are the beauty marks of God. “You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it” (Psalm 139:13-14 NLT).

There are some with whom God has decided that they would be a loner. There are many paths and many circumstances that will lead someone to be a loner. There are no accidents or mistakes in the plans of God, and it is up to us to embrace and build upon where He has placed us.

If God made you a loner, perhaps it was so you could spend more time with Him. Jesus said, “You will leave me all alone. Yet I am not alone, for my Father is with me” (John 16:32 NIV).

Sometimes we can focus on what we are missing when we are a loner. We miss the friendships that brings so much richness to life. We miss the adventures that can only be found through companionship with others. But we must instead be thankful for what we have, and then we will be content.

Contentment is being thankful for what you have. “I am not complaining about having too little. I have learned to be satisfied with whatever I have” (Philippians 4:11 CEV).

We must learn to find the great treasure in being a loner. It will be the loners that can spend the most time with God and grow the nearest to Him. The prophets were always lonely, yet we find that they were never alone. No matter how alone you feel, you’re never alone.

To get close to God, you must become further from man. “And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there” (Matthew 14:23 NKJV).

Loners tend to be the least selfish people on this earth. They are not around people to make a name for themselves but are content all alone, where often they are praying for others. It will be the loner who makes the best intercessor. To be alone with God requires you’re not with other people.

It is the intercessor alone that can plead with God to change the course of history. God said, “So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one” (Ezekiel 22:30 NKJV).

God has a purpose in making you a loner. He did not do it to make you suffer needlessly but to suffer effectively. The loner must go through many things but, in the end, will be made into something the Lord can make great use of. Let the Lord shape you, even with the hard instruments.

Pray your suffering accomplishes His will for your life. “But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you” (1 Peter 5:10 NKJV).

The crowd never understands the loner and the loner never tries to explain to the crowd. The loner has a purpose, and the crowd is not it. The loner works alone because that is what the loaner was designed to do. Let your aloneness be useful for the kingdom.

Be the one that God can use to build His kingdom. “The Lord wants to use you for special purposes, so make yourself clean from all evil. Then you will be holy, and the Master can use you. You will be ready for any good work” (2 Timothy 2:21 ERV).

Though you are a loner, you must seek some fellowship. You may never fit into all the cliques at church, but you can connect with that one or two special souls. We need each other. Find another loner that, between the two of you, the Lord can bless your time and enrich your life.

Faith is a journey we must never walk alone. “Two are better than one… For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, for he has no one to help him up” (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 NKJV).

Until we discover the great value in being a loner there will not be as much value in being one. So long as we complain about a thing the Lord will just wait until we begin to praise Him. If we only knew the blessing God has given us then our life would be a blessing to all those around us.

You may be a loner but you’re never alone. “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not be terrified nor dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9 NASB).

Blessings to you,

Paul Balius

    1. Hi Robert, I think it is a most wonderful thing we can live in peace with how God designed us, knowing that He never makes a mistake in anything He does. When we learn to be comfortable in our own skin we will become more effective in serving Him as we are. Blessings to you Robert.

  2. I’ve been a loner all of seventy years this side of Heaven. Such I thought was because I chose to be a loner but yes, I believe that our One All-Glorious God chose me, even me, to be a loner. From my personal experience, I’d have to say that this may not work well in a marriage for the hard-core loner and his/her spouse. If I had to do it over again, I’d have been more attentive to my wife, as extremely given to mood swings as she was. Men, women need loads of attention and affection. Love on them big time. Action your appreciation for them ardently and consistently in both word and deed. Even so, truth be told, immensely I’ve actually, more than a little, enjoyed being a loner with and for the Lord. My sincere prayer for you, each and everyone reading this post is that you live in vital, conscious union and ever-increasing intimate abiding love communion with our affectionate Abba Almighty and His Christ, the Son of His love, more beautiful than the sons of men, forever fully God, forever fully man, the Holy and the Just, the Amen. Alleluia

    1. Thank you so much for these wonderful words of wisdom and encouragement. Your writing is as beautiful. I pray God is using you mightily in your sphere of influence. May He bless your life richly!
