Overcoming Anger

There is not an emotion more harmful to your life than that of anger. We often speak of deliverance in terms of being set free from the demonic spirits that may be upon us. Certainly, there can be a demonic spirit of rage and anger, but more often it is the grip of our own angry emotions that we need to be delivered from.

I have had people tell me to not take their words personally, and invariably the words that follow are extremely personal and usually hurtful. The more pointed the attack is upon us, the angrier we can become. We all get hurt and we all get angry. It is not wrong to get angry so long as your anger is controlled by love, but that is where we fail and where we need the Lord to do a work in us.

We need to stop thinking that only the other person needs to change, when it is in our heart that the Lord needs to work on. The Lord will deal with them, but what about you? Will you let Him change you? If it is somebody you love who you are angry at the most, consider that the greatest influence you can have on them is to first allow the Lord to have His great influence on you.

What you hold onto is what has you.

It is hard to be mad at people when you are praying for them.

The source of our anger is never what we are judged on, but our response to it. It is not wrong to be angry so long as your heart remains filled with love. “Be angry, and do not sin. Meditate within your heart on your bed, and be still. Selah” (Psalm 4:4).

We don’t need to learn to manage our anger, but to be delivered from it.

Anger is a prison without walls, where you decide how long you will stay there.

Wisdom is not just knowing right but doing right. “The discretion of a man makes him slow to anger, and his glory is to overlook a transgression” (Proverbs 19:11).

You become what you hold onto.

Stop asking the Lord to change your circumstances and ask Him to change you.

Pray blessings on those who are against you. It is not meant to change them, but you. The Lord Jesus taught us, “bless those who curse you, and pray for those who spitefully use you” (Luke 6:28).

Frustrations reveal those things you still need to let go of.

It is easy to be Spirit led until someone gets under your skin, and it is there you will discover how much your flesh still rules you.

Stop hurting the Holy Spirit by the way you live your life. “And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God…Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you…” (Ephesians 4:30-31).

Having anger in your heart is not dependent on your past, but only if you choose to remain there.

The greatest way to prevail over your enemies is to love them.

When you love your enemies, you remove the hold they have on you, which is your anger towards them. Jesus taught us, “But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you” (Matthew 5:44).

Don’t just pray for things outside you to change but pray for God to change your inside.

It is with the people that treat us the worst where we discover how much Christ reigns in us.

Have you ever thought that the most irritating person in your life is the one the Lord has placed there to create the biggest change in you?

You are not defined by what people say about you, but what you say about them.

There are some things in your life that you need to sacrifice on the altar, that they would no longer remain alive in you. “But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth” (Colossians 3:8).

Blessings to you,

Paul

  1. Thank you Paul
A clear explanation of anger and the process to eliminate.
It’s not what’s outside of us, but what needs to be changed inside us.
