Getting into the Will of God

Early on in my faith I never thought I could get into God’s will. I knew my own weakness so thought this goal to be impossible. But then the Holy Spirit began to do a work in me, and the life of Christ began to reign in me, and I started to live a life more and more in His will.

I still sometimes struggle as I seek to live in His will, but I never give up and I always press in. We all need to do the same. We all fall short, but oh friends, if you would only seek Him, it is Him you will most certainly find! Don’t you realize, that God is on your side? It is the Devil that wants to ruin you.

Get into His will for your life. You can’t do it on your own, but Christ in you can. Pray for that, surrender to that, believe for that. Jesus commanded us to live a life that He Himself planned to live in us. “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me…” (Galatians 2:20).

Stop trying to pray God into your will, instead pray yourself into His.

You may have free will but be sure there is a cost in how you spend it. Seek His will first and you will never go wrong. “Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is” (Ephesians 5:17).

It is not enough to know the will of God, but you must live it.

You know when you are in His will because your heart is full. “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).

Do you want to know what God’s will is for your life? Be holy. Many keep asking hoping for a different answer. “…You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy” (Leviticus 19:2).

God’s will is not always a happy ending by man’s standards. The Apostle Paul understood a happy ending by God’s standard when he said, “For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain” (Philippians 1:21).

The hardest thing about getting into the will of God is getting out of your own.

The more you fit into this world, the less you fit into His perfect will. “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God” (Romans 12:2).

Popularity is often the sign you are out of the will of God.

Sanctification is not losing things but being set free from them. “For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality” (1 Thessalonians 4:3).

Even doing right is wrong if done outside His will.

The will of God is revealed in the Word of God. “But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him” (1 John 2:5).

There is nothing that hinders a man or woman from doing God’s work more than being dominated by their own will. Whatever the cost, just pray that, “…The will of the Lord be done” (Acts 21:14).

When God promotes you, nothing can stand in your way. “Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God…” (Colossians 1:1). The problem is always where man promotes himself.

Man measures progress by what is completed in the world, but God measures by what is completed in the man. “And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever” (1 John 2:17).

The success of your ministry is never determined by the applause of man, but by the approval of God.

Don’t seek the bigger life, but the higher life. “…that you may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God” (Colossians 4:12).

Often times you know you are in His perfect will when it is not your own.

Trade what you imagined your life should have been for the life that God would have you live. “For it is better, if it is the will of God, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil” (1 Peter 3:17).

Whatever you do outside of love is outside the will of God.

If we suffer by His will, let us do so to His glory. “Therefore let those who suffer according to the will of God commit their souls to Him in doing good, as to a faithful Creator” (1 Peter 4:19).

If you ever question why God’s will for you is so difficult, consider Jesus on the Cross.

You must surrender all, that He can then direct you. “…they first gave themselves to the Lord, and then to us by the will of God” (2 Corinthians 8:5).

Blessings to you,

Paul

  1. Stop trying to pray God into your will, instead pray yourself into His.

I know what the will of the Lord is for my life… to worship him, walk holy, bring him glory. Yet I have been out of his will the last 2 days and my depression returned. The peace and joy of the Lord come to me when I am in HIS will…not moving forward with MY will and hoping He will bless it and open the doors in my direction for me.
    Thanks for this timely post.

    1. You know, I think it is when we understand things like you have written here that places us on the road towards Him. We can step out of His will, and when we do it feels wrong, we feel wrong. But when we get back into His will, His peace comes back upon us. Praying for your victory.

  2. Nice to meet you Paul.
My name is Young and I’m a Korean. My friend Sang-myung let me know your blog.
Now I’m also trying to get into the Will of God. But It is very hard for me because of my sin.
I repeatedly forget that Holly Spirit works for me, so I try handle all sins by myself.
Please pray for me to overcome it so that I would be caught by his will completely.
    Thanks for your kind post.

    1. It is such an honor to meet you Young. I have a love for Korean culture as I spent years in Tae Kwon Do under Master Choi near where I live. Now I have a new Master in Christ Jesus! Yes, sin is a hindrance to getting into God’s will, we all have this battle. But the secret is this, it is not a battle we can win, but where we must surrender, to the Lord, that the Lord would then have His victory in us. Message me, or comment at my facebook site, and I can send you some blogs that i think may help you. Also, consider reading Serve in Spirit by Watchman Nee. Praying for you Young.

    1. Thank you my friend, I just love the wisdom books, and Proverbs is such a powerful book. It is my greatest hope to become wiser in my days here on earth.
