What is Truth?

The Lord Jesus told Pilate, “’…Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.’ Pilate said to Him, ‘What is truth?’…” (John 18:37-38). Jesus did not answer Pilate, but His answer would have been “I AM”.

Jesus does not just speak truth, He is truth.

Jesus promised, “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32). Jesus is that truth. The truth will set you free, but you have to let go of the lie first.

The greatest lie you must overcome is that there is some other way to be saved, but through Christ alone. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6).

If you don’t have your foundation on the truth, then you are standing on a lie.

Lord Jesus, truth is never measured by man’s willingness to accept it, but by Your stamp upon it.

It is the smallest lie that you justify where the Devil stakes his claim on you. Be determined to tell the truth or say nothing at all.

The lie from man attempts to make mankind not quite as bad as things may appear. The truth from God simply sets the record straight. The more you justify your actions proves which message appeals to you the most.

If you want to serve God in truth, then you have to stop living a lie. Never worry if others will judge you, better to be judged in truth by men than judged in your lie by God. It is never in the judgment of men that you should worry yourself. “…Behold, the Judge is standing at the door!” (James 5:9).

Hard truth is never easy. Jesus never watered down His message to keep more disciples, but gave the hard message to keep the right ones. Just speak the truth and let the results be what they will.

The key to discovering truth is discerning the lie. The most dangerous lie is the one we call truth. Be willing to be wrong. Be willing to be rebuked. Love truth more than yourself. “Show me Your ways, O Lord; Teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me, For You are the God of my salvation; On You I wait all the day” (Psalm 25:4-5).

Truth is only hard the further you are from it, but a lie is always easy. The greatest barrier to the revelation of truth is the lie you firmly hold onto.

Never let the traditions of man be the hindrance to the truth of God.

The deepest depravity of man is not that he does more bad things, but that he calls more bad things good. The deception is complete when the lie is called truth. “Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who put darkness for light…” (Isaiah 5:20).

Truth is to lies what light is to darkness. Speak light.

You can never preach the truth to others and live a lie. The one negates the other. “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15). Only preach to the level you are willing to live.

Never preach a truth not yet true for you. To do so merely invites the Lord to make an example of you, and the fraud that you are.

Our problem in the church is not that we fail to argue truth, but that we fail to live it.

The greatest truths are so simple that most people never see them.

Stop watering down the truth of God, that it would be easier for you to swallow. The truth only hurts when it needs to. “Now therefore, fear the Lord, serve Him in sincerity and in truth…” (Joshua 24:14). Fear means fear.

The more you water down truth, the greater the lie becomes.

If you want a soft answer then look for a lie, there are plenty out there. But if you want truth, then God’s word is where you start. The Lord never sugar coats the truth, it takes men to do that.

God’s Word was never meant to leave you, but to change you. The Word is a sword because it divides the good from the bad, the Kingdom from the world, and the truth from the lie. You are not meant to fit in, but to be set apart.

Just as darkness cannot draw near to light, so a lie cannot draw near to the truth. “The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, to all who call upon Him in truth” (Psalm 145:18).

Blessings to you,

Paul
