Peace Like a River

I want you to know that you can have a life filled with peace. No matter what is going on around you, He can put His peace within you. But you must be in Him that His peace would be in you.

Jesus said, “…in Me you may have peace…” (John 16:33). The measure of your peace is the measure you are in Christ.

Peace is never found in things, but in Christ. Whatever you have, apart from having peace you will still be miserable. You cannot know peace apart from Christ because He is peace. “For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given… and His name will be called …Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6).

We ask for His blessings, but are we in a place where we might receive them? Peace is an end and obedience is the path by which we can get there.

The Lord said, “Oh, that you had heeded My commandments! Then your peace would have been like a river…” (Isaiah 48:18). Obedience comes first, then comes the river of peace.

Oh, don’t miss this! The fruit of godly obedience is the peace from God.

Your obedience to the Lord are the banks to the river of peace that would flow back upon your life. As you obey Him more, the river becomes deeper, with more peace coming back onto you.

Righteousness is so intimately close with peace, that they are joined together in the Word. “…Righteousness and peace have kissed” (Psalm 85:10).

Peace is a treasure that cannot be bought but has a value we cannot measure. You cannot acquire peace, but only receive it.

Never expect peace in disobedience. We are saved by grace, but peace comes by obedience.

Oh friends, what you do matters so much. In whatever you do, it is as if you are doing it to yourself. “The work of righteousness will be peace, And the effect of righteousness, quietness and assurance forever” (Isaiah 32:17).

You cannot live a life going away from Christ, and experience a life of peace in Christ.

Obedience is not by your strength, but the Holy Spirit strength in you. When once you surrender to Him, His life will then reign in you. “I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them” (Ezekiel 36:27).

What pours out of your heart fills the cup you will drink from.

“But the meek shall inherit the earth, and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace” (Psalm 37:11). The meek have an abundance of peace not from how others treat them, but how they treat others.

The more you love the Word, the greater His peace will be in you. “Great peace have those who love Your law, and nothing causes them to stumble” (Psalm 119:165). When you are in the Word, then the Word will be in you.

It is either the tragedy or the blessing in life, that people get exactly what they are looking for. You find what you seek. “…seek peace and pursue it” (Psalm 34:14, 1 Peter 3:11).

The prophet Isaiah said, “‘There is no peace,’ Says my God, ‘for the wicked'” (Isaiah 57:21). God never gives us peace in our disobedience, because He would never want us to stay there.

How much in Scripture, do we see righteousness and peace together! “…for the kingdom of God is…righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit” (Romans 14:17).

The peace from God is not for but a moment, but forever. “Then your peace would have been like a river…” (Isaiah 48:18). A river never stops flowing.

Blessings to you,

Paul

  1. I recently came across your posts on Facebook, and they have quickly become a favorite of mine. Thank you for sharing the Word of God in such a way that brings encouragement to others.
Although I strive daily to serve God to the best of my ability in this corrupt world, I can attest to the peace that can be had when we surrender our lives to Him. Despite hearing, reading, and seeing the terrible things that take place around us, by trusting in the Lord, and keeping His Word within me, I feel such peace that, were it not from God, it would be impossible. “And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” (Phil. 4:7)
Again, thank you, and God bless you as you continue to encourage others with His Word.

    1. Thank you so much for your words of encouragement! These are so appreciated. You have such a good word in what you wrote here, they keys to our peace being that we surrender to Him, trust in Him, keep His Word. I see so many struggling without peace as if it cannot be found. But it can be found. I can tell you that I have moments when I will not have peace, but I know exactly where to go to find it again, in Christ alone. Thanks again for your uplifting words, you blessed me! May God bless you!

    1. Thank you so much Lorena! Encouragement means so much to me, so I truly appreciate it. Thank you again! Am hoping to see you write some more. You have so much to pour out for His kingdom. He has a ministry for you.

  2. Amen! Just in reading this i got so much more understanding why people with addictions lose peace and in pursuing peace use more to dull the emptiness…

    1. It breaks my heart to see a thirsty generation drinking salt, and fed the delusion that it will someday satisfy them. The world cannot satisfy the heavenly longings we have designed into our soul. I have been praying into a revival, for millions to come the the Lord. Oh, things are going to get busy in the Kingdom!

    1. Oh yes, I have experienced this same truth, that for every inch I am closer to Him, His peace is closer to me. We can teach this, but until you live this you do not really know. So glad that you are experiencing this precious gift from Christ!

  3. I had a high collision car crash when I came to a sudden stop I said to my husband the peace of God is here I’m not afraid this has sustained me throughout my recovery August 12/2017 the peace and joy of The Lord 🙏

    1. By the power of God His peace is in you! We always grow far more in our trials, though we never pray to have them. Yet once we go through them we can sometimes see the value that we could not have gained in any other way. Praying for your continued healing and for His glory to shine brighter from the saint He is forming in you.

  4. In getting ready for my day I opened my phone to some internet pages I had left open so I can revisit later and came across your post on peace. I love His Shalom, His peace, however I have to admit that I haven’t maintained His peace in all circumstances. When things get rough I have allowed the enemy to rob me of my peace. I know I MUST master this! Thank you for your post Paul. I am going to read this every day to help me keep this at the forefront of my walk and ask The Holy Spirit to shake me up when I’m beginning to fall off the track. God bless you Paul!

    1. Thank you so much for posting this Debbie! i cannot tell you how much of an encouragement you have been to me today. I want you to know that it is a journey for us all to experience the greater peace and in all circumstances. But I can tell you that I came from a life of anxiousness and worry, and now live a life almost free from worries. There is so much peace when we just start trusting the Lord. I live Isaiah 26:3. Praying for you my sister, that the Lord will open up the heavens and pour His peace into your life.

  5. Oh My Goodness Brother Paul! I have had incredible peace in the midst of storms…Shalom peace as if there were no storms…and learning how to battle while holding my peace. And the reason for this is I’ve also learned that it’s He in me that is doing the battling/warring. I even feel better in my physical body!
Then in speaking with someone else tonight who was struggling the same as I was, we prayed and they got free! How fun The Kingdom of God is!
This is a definite lifestyle change that I’m submitting myself to God in.
Thank you so much for your posts, your prayers and encouragement!
    OMG!!! 😲

    1. Hi Debbie, I cannot tell you what a great joy it was to see these words from you! It is such a joy to meet a sibling in Christ that has been transformed as in on the wonderful side of being a new creation! I love how you wrote “how fun the Kingdom of God is”. Yes!!! That is exactly what we should find in the life of a saint changed by God and ready to help others change too! Blessings to you!
